Nicolas Cage is well-known for his acting abilities and diverse roles over the course of his decades-long Hollywood career. This passion for art appeared to have worked wonders for him, as he went on to win an Academy Award for his breakout role in the movie Leaving Las Vegas.

However, the quality of his films began to deteriorate after a number of his ventures failed at the box office. The 2010s were also not kind to the actor, as he was nearly forced to play minor supporting roles in films such as Kick-Ass and Snowden, to mention a few, as well as several small-scale movies.

However, the movie Pig released in 2021, presented the actor in a good light and showcased his stellar performance on the big screen once more.

The movie Pig was the debut project of director Michael Sarnoski, and this movie ultimately helped the director bag the recently released A Quite Place: Day One. John Krasinski, who directed the original A Quiet Place, was so impressed with Sarnoski’s debut feature film that he approached him for directing the recently released prequel.

This was stated by Michael Sarnoski in an interview with Games Radar+ (via CBR). The director revealed-

John Krasinski saw Pig. I guess he liked it, because he reached out and said, ‘Hey, do you want to bring a little bit of that Pig touch to A Quiet Place?’ He told me that they wanted to do a New York day one movie and gave me some time to think about what my input to that would be

The revelation came as no surprise to the fanatics as to how it drew Krasinski’s attention, given that it was an instant hit with reviewers and audiences alike, making it one of Nicolas Cage’s best roles in his career.

Furthermore, the director discussed John Krasinski’s departure as the director for A Quiet Place: Day One, stating:

I think his big thing was he kind of wanted to allow another filmmaker into this sandbox and give them the freedom to just do what they wanted to do. So mostly, he was just very supportive.

Given that the prequel has received an encouraging reception from viewers (via CBR), the decision to bring Michael Sarnoski on board appears to be an excellent one.

A Quiet Place: Day One puts on a good show for the audience

The spin-off prequel to John Krasinski’s successful apocalyptic horror film A Quiet Place, released on June 28, stars Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn in pivotal roles. This time around, Michael Sarnoski is in charge of the direction, and it’s safe to say that the pairing of Sarnoski and John Krasinski has given the plot a fresh perspective.

However, some of the classic films’ aspects, such as the alien invasion and no-noise elements, have been preserved this time as well. Unlike Krasinski, who focused largely on family issues, Sarnoski provides a broader perspective on the invasion’s overall societal impact.

Staying true to its roots, the film features significant character development, such as Nyong’o’s character Samira, a stage 4 cancer patient who knows what she wants despite her initial dissatisfaction and unhappiness. On the other hand, Joseph Quinn plays Eric, an English law student who is fragile and desperate for survival.
