Director Patty Jenkins took to the stage to confirm a rumor about the film’s setting, which had been making the rounds since July of last year. She confirmed that the film would be following in the footsteps of it’s predecessor as a period piece set during the 1980’s at the height of the Cold War. This statement was given further validity after a production sheet had previously leaked stating that Princess Diana (Gal Gadot) would be pit against the forces of the Soviet Union.

Wonder Woman 2 is set to begin principal photography later next month in the United Kingdom. The cast of the film is currently unknown besides Kristen Wiig, Gal Gadot, and Chris Pine. Wiig was recently casted as Dr. Barbara Anne Minerva/Cheetah, the third Cheetah. In the comic books, Minerva is a British anthropologist who will stumble upon the lost and cursed city of Urzkartagan but will pay a heavy price for her discovery as she would be transformed into a cat-like creature with an adversarial role in numerous Wonder Woman comics. She first debuted in Wonder Woman #7 in 1987 and was created by Len Wein and George Perez.

Wonder Woman 2 is slated to release on November 1st, 2019. The first installment was one of the most profitable films for Warner Bros. Pictures last year as it earned $821 million worldwide to become the most successful entry in the DC Extended Universe franchise. Studio executives are certainly hoping that the film pushes beyond these high standards and turn around critical and commercial reception of the franchise in a post-Justice League world.
