Fans of Alan Wake 2 and Remedy Entertainment were in for a treat when Sam Lake, the studio’s creative director, posted a selfie on X that had everyone talking.
The photo featured Lake hanging out with none other than Robert De Niro, one of Hollywood’s greatest actors. This unexpected meetup sparked a lot of excitement and speculation among fans about whether this could mean anything for any future Remedy game.
Alan Wake 2’s Sam Lake Had a Legendary Meetup
On June 15, 2024, Sam Lake took to X to share a selfie that got the internet talking. The picture shows a beaming Lake alongside De Niro, and it’s clear they were having a great time.
Hanging out with legends here in New York City. The lovely Jane Rosenthal kindly introduced me to Mr. Robert De Niro here, and we had a nice chat about videogames and @Tribeca #tribeca2024 pic.twitter.com/KZPnDcgur4

Jane Rosenthal is a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival, which has recently been showcasing more video game content. Seeing Lake, a major figure in the video game industry, alongside De Niro, a cinematic icon, at such an event was a nice surprise for many.
The Tribeca Film Festival has been bridging the gap between films and video games for a while now, and this photo op is a perfect example of that. Remedy has always pushed the boundaries of what video games can be, blending cinematic elements with interactive storytelling.
It has a history of collaborating with well-known actors. For instance, Control featured Courtney Hope and Matthew Porretta, who brought their characters to life with incredible performances. Quantum Break featured Shawn Ashmore and Aiden Gillen in its main cast.
Most recently, Alan Wake 2 featured Ilkka Villi and David Harewood, amongst others. Adding De Niro to this list would continue Remedy’s tradition of elevating its games with top-tier talent.
What’s Next for Sam Lake and Remedy Entertainment?
Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish developer known for crafting cinematic action games with a nice blend of story and atmosphere, quite often tying in to or containing live-action miniseries or shorts, has carved a distinct space in the gaming industry.
Alan Wake 2’s critical reception will undoubtedly shape Remedy’s future direction. Positive reviews likely helped greenlight a third entry in the Alan Wake franchise, and the game itself definitely helped solidify the Remedy Connected Universe.
Control 2 is already in development, and so are the remakes of the first two Max Payne games. Updates on the project have been scarce since its announcement in 2022. Remedy’s recent quarterly earnings presentation in March 2024 only confirmed that Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes were still in the “production readiness” stage and are likely several years off from release.
Another exciting project is Project Condor, a co-op multiplayer game set in the Control universe. Remedy has expressed interest in exploring how its unique narrative style can translate into a multiplayer setting and wanting to make a live-service game.
For now, fans can only dream about the possibilities and keep their fingers crossed for more exciting news. Whether it’s through subtle tweets that hint at future games and plot points or surprise reveals, one thing is clear: Sam Lake knows how to keep everyone excited.
