While we’ve seen games like Elden Ring elevating the Soulsborne genere to a new pedestal, one can’t deny the success of Bloodborne‘s narrative, infused with Lovecraftian’s horror themes. Ever since the launch of PlayStation 5 (PS5), fans have been hoping they would get a remake of the same, if not a sequel. Seeing the game in a new light with up-to date hardware that is more powerful than ever could really give the game a great opportunity to shine with it’s visuals.

New hardware can even help game developers develop their games in a better manner than originally planned. In an interview with Gamers Radar, Miyazaki acknowledged the strength of modern consoles and talked about how PS4’s extra power helped FromSoftware add more features to Bloodborne.

Being a director, Ive had the privilege of heading a PS3 launch title. Looking back, I think the PS4 has made the development cycle much easier. Any dev from the early days would agree with me on this one

Massive projects such as Bloodborne need up-to-date hardware to perform at their peak and bring genre-defining features. One of the major reasons behind Bloodborne‘s success was the game’s launch on the most powerful consoles of the time, which made the development much easier.

In regards to new accomplishments due to the new PS4 architecture, well, there are a lot indeed. The incredibly detailed gothic/Victorian cityscapes which seamlessly interlink, and the shape-shifting ‘trick weapons’ configured with tons of animations each – just to name a few.

FromSoftware has always been known for its world-building and aesthetics, and Bloodborne became one of the studios’ most beautiful works due to PS4’s raw power. It’s clear that if the developers decide to port the game to PS5, it will allow them to reach new heights of success and expand upon the game’s environment and art style in a way that we’ve never seen before.

Despite the community’s request for a Bloodborne remaster, it’s still unknown whether FromSoftware has any plans to return to the franchise. Miyazaki has stated that he’s aware of the fans desperate for some kind of improved Bloodborne but states that the development team can’t do anything about the project.

Sony Might Save Bloodborne Remake For PlayStation 6

It’s a known fact that Bloodborne was a system seller for Sony’s PS4. Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls also received rave reviews, giving early ay adopters of PS5 the chance to revisit a classic that they might have missed two generations prior. With FromSoftware planning to move into new directions, fans might be craving classic Soulsborne gameplay with the launch of PS6, and a Bloodborne remake could be exactly the way to fill that gap.

With recent rumors of PS6 aiming for a 2029 release date and the Bloodborne game reaching its 15th anniversary in early 2030, the next Sony console seems like the perfect platform to refresh the game and present it to a new generation of gamers.

While the merits of remaking versus rereleasing a game are a hot topic, it’s undeniable that a properly crafted remake is a great way to honor a classic title. With recent remakes of Resident Evil 4 and Final Fantasy 7 proving to be a critical and commercial success, only time will tell if Bloodborne will get a similar treatment or not.
