Avengers 5 is going to be the first team-up film since Endgame for the MCU’s premier superhero team, a gap that has been the longest between the two Avengers films. A large part of the fandom blames the current lackluster state of the IP on the fact that there hasn’t been an Avengers film in a while, which usually served as a shared space that brought a sense of cohesion to the franchise, with its varied worlds and genres existing in the same superhero setting.

Avengers 5 will be an important film in the MCU, given that the Avengers sub-franchise essentially defines the Marvel Cineamtic Universe in the absence of a new trinity, which will probably not be the case for the MCU going forward.
This means that the film will need to be in very capable hands to wow fans and get them to the theatres. While Shawn Levy, who is sure to have a blockbuster success on his hands with Deadpool & Wolverine, was championed as a director for the film, it seems that fans might have to settle for someone else rather than the Free Guy director.
Avengers 5 might not have Shawn Levy, but there is still hope

Fans hoped to get Shawn Levy to direct Avengers 5, which has since changed its name from Kang Dynasty. The new title of the film is yet to be revealed, and there is little else fans know about the story. The Avengers are expected to begin assembling by the end of Captain America: Brave New World, a momentum that will be carried forward in the films and shows to come, culminating in Avengers 5, which is rumored to feature the multiverse, but still be grounded.
However, various sources have reported that Levy is no longer in the running, with fans taking to Twitter to express who they think should work on Avengers 5.
The Russo Brothers have left a large footprint on the MCU by directing two Captain America films and the two-part culmination of the Infinity Saga, Infinity War and Endgame. They are also a popular choice among fans when it comes to directing Avengers 5. There are other directors in the mix, such as Sam Raimi and Ryan Coogler, but the rumored top choice is currently a separate directing duo altogether.
Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead are the rumored frontrunners to direct Avengers 5

While there are a lot of MCU alums in the mix to direct Avengers 5, such as Ryan Coogler and Sam Raimi, the rumored top choices, according to certain unofficial sources on the internet, are Justin Benson and Aaron Moorehead, who are currently heading Daredevil: Born Again and were responsible for the resounding success that was Loki.
The duo’s work has been well-liked by fans and critics alike, and it would make sense if they were in the running to do Avengers 5 as well. However, given the volume of work that they have on their plate with Daredevil: Born Again (which has a whopping 18 episodes), it is unlikely that the duo will have the time to work on a project as big as Avengers 5.
Deadpool & Wolverine is set to release on July 26th, 2024.
