Starring Timothée Chalamet in the lead role alongside Zendaya and an ensemble cast, the Dune films are getting fame and recognition worldwide. Contradicting his own statements, Denis Villeneuve stated that he will be making Dune: Messiah (or Dune 3) after all!
Denis Villeneuve Wanted To Work On Something Else
Back in 2021, Denis Villeneuve went on to release one of the most iconic pieces of cinema that the world had ever seen, Dune: Part One. Starring Timothée Chalamet in the lead role of Paul Atreides, the movie brought Frank Herbert’s novel to life.

After 3 years, Dune: Part Two was released and the film went on to break certain box-office records of the year 2024 and was highly praised and loved around the world.
At a press conference in South Korea, Villeneuve revealed (via YouTube) that it took him six years to make Dune: Part One and Two. The director revealed that there was no break between the movies.
However, the director further revealed that he will need a “palette cleanser” before he can return to Arrakis.
I don’t know exactly when I will go back to Arrakis. I might make a detour before just to go away from the sun. For my mental sanity I might do something in between.
Only if things would go the way we wish them to go. From plans for adapting Rendezvous With Rama to coming back to Frank Herbert’s novels, it seems that Villeneuve might fall back.
Recent reports indicate that Villeneuve is back on track from where he left off in the Dune franchise and fans have quite the reaction to it! From jokes to allegations, it seems that Dune: Messiah is in the works.
Denis Villeneuve Is Back With Dune: Messiah
For reasons unknown, a recent report indicated that Villeneuve is back to the Dune franchise and will allegedly not take the break that he had talked about earlier.

As per the tweet, the director seems to have had a change of heart as Denis Villeneuve is looking to make Dune: Messiah his next film and not Rendezvous With Rama.
Taking to X, fans talked about how certain financial aspects might be involved in the whole ordeal.
All jokes aside, it can be considered that Dune: Messiah might just be Denis Villeneuve’s last film in the Dune franchise and that he’d be forever done with Arrakis.
The bad side is that Villeneuve won’t have the chance to clean his palette and he will be returning back to Arrakis sooner rather than later. Villeneuve’s recently released Dune: Part Two received a rating of 8.6/10 on IMDB and a whopping 92% on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release.
The iconic 2024 film is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
