Dr Disrespect, one of the most polarizing figures in the streaming world, had big plans after his unexpected Twitch ban back in 2020.
Known for his high-energy persona, flashy production values, and larger-than-life character, the Doc envisioned creating a ‘Marvel Cinematic Universe’ of streaming projects. This ambitious idea involved expanding his character into multiple different ventures, each interconnected like the famous superhero franchise.
Dr Disrespect Shared His Grand Vision Back in 2020
Following his mysterious and sudden ban from Twitch in June 2020, Dr Disrespect remained somewhat tight-lipped about the specifics. However, in an interview with PC Gamer shortly after, he shared glimpses of a grand plan that extended far beyond just streaming.
He imagined a universe where his character could thrive in various formats and platforms, creating a cohesive and immersive experience for his fans. Dr Disrespect talked about developing shows, comics, and even movies, all centered around his iconic character.
He mentioned a universe with multiple different projects, akin to the interconnected storylines seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This wasn’t just about making content, it was about creating a brand and image that could go beyond traditional streaming boundaries and immerse viewers in a complex world of entertainment filled with different things and mediums.
This Champions Club concept mentioned in the interview would see the Doc travel across different platforms, each with its own narrative, but containing the same character. This also never came to fruition, just like his MCU aspirations.
Interestingly, going back and reading that interview feels very different after the allegations made against him on the 21st of June. He was tight-lipped and pretended not to have any clue as to why Twitch banned him abruptly, but the reason has allegedly been revealed.
What Has Dr Disrespect Been Up to Since?
In the years following his Twitch ban, Dr Disrespect has continued to build his brand, but not quite to the MCU scale he once envisioned. The ban definitely affected a lot of his aspirations, and he revealed in April of this year that he had lost out on a Nike partnership due to the Twitch ban.
Shortly after his ban, Doc made a return to streaming on YouTube. He quickly amassed a significant following there and showed his ability to draw a crowd even without Twitch. His streams remain popular, maintaining the high production quality and energetic style that fans love.
In March 2021, Dr Disrespect released a memoir titled Violence. Speed. Momentum. The book dives into his career, his persona, and his thoughts on the streaming industry. While it didn’t create a universe of projects, it did provide fans with deeper insights into the man behind the shades.
Perhaps the most ambitious of his post-ban projects is the co-founding of Midnight Society, a new game development studio. Announced in December 2021, this venture aims to create groundbreaking games with input from the gaming community.
This is another venture that has been rather controversial due to its use of NFTs, and comments made about generative AI use for the game.
