Elden Ring is the pinnacle of the Soulslike genre and the developers single-handedly pioneered it for the last few years and has improved in quality. The developers continue to spoil the gaming community and the CEO appears to be taking a different approach for the future.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki and his team spent countless hours and days making the perfect Soulslike game and have already cracked the code. Miyazaki aims to apply this strategy and develop games that are much smaller in scale compared to its best in years.

The Success of Elden Ring Gave the Developers the Idea to Try Something Else

Hidetaka Miyazaki has outdone himself with his latest project, which was universally praised by the gaming community. Streamers like Kai Cenat went on record saying that Elden Ring is now his favorite video game, which has affected the way he views video games.

The influence of the latest Soulslike game is a testament to their skills. Miyazaki knew the expectations were high and did not take any chances. The director had everyone on board for this project, which was beneficial for some of the staff who had accumulated enough knowledge and experience to lead their games. Miyazaki spoke about the future of the studio in a recent interview.

I attribute a lot of our in-house creative team growth to Elden Ring because the sheer scale of what that game demanded naturally elevated our talent pool to a higher level that they’re able to direct their own games now,

Miyazaki is proud of how the creative team grew during the production of the last project.

We want to definitely take advantage of that growth through Elden Ring and apply it to whatever comes next, with different directors and game designers.

The studio came together and the result was extraordinary. Miyazaki believes some team members are now ready to take the helm of upcoming projects that are on a smaller scale.

Perhaps the director is considering increasing the studio’s content output but not on the same scale as major projects. These games could hold off the gaming community for whatever Miyazaki is up to next.

Quantity over quality is a risky business strategy but FromSoftware games are all about the risk and celebrating rewards. Dividing the studio’s resources will likely mean the quality of smaller games will not be up to standard compared to what came before but will be produced quicker.

The two paths here are for the developers to produce massive games that will take years to give the players smaller projects. There is a cost to the latter strategy but Miyazaki knows best.

FromSoftware has never fumbled and is not planning to. Perhaps these smaller games will carry whatever made Elden Ring a success into a decent-sized package and will keep the fans interested.

If history has taught the gaming community something, it is to not bet against Miyazaki. The Soulslike genre grew immensely because of the people behind it.
