At the time of writing, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is almost out, but the base game has already received a big update that changes quite a few things in the game. One of them has to do with the Tarnished’s reliable companion, Torrent.

Previously, players couldn’t use his help during the final battle. After this update, however, that’s going to change. This update is part of the Version 1.12 patch on all platforms.

Note: Minor spoilers for Elden Ring.

Torrent Can Now Help You Beat the Game

Elden Ring's final boss battle will now feel a bit simpler.
Elden Ring’s final boss battle will now feel a bit simpler.

Based on the game’s narrative and story progression, the Elden Beast is indeed the final big fight in the game. However, newcomers may think that this is the only boss they’ll have to fight. As it stands, Elden Ring’s final boss battle happens in two phases.

The first phase is a fight against Radagon of the Golden Order. Once this mighty boss has been dealt with, players enter a new area where the gigantic Elden Beast moves around freely and brings down a world of hurt as players fight for their lives (and the final ending).

In the past, players couldn’t call Torrent for help during the second phase, which was always a matter of concern because the Elden Beast makes players run quite a lot. This was surprising because similar boss fights (such as Starscourge Radahn) would make use of huge spaces for the fight to take place.

During these battles, Torrent could be summoned and it would be simpler for the player to traverse the battlefield while also being able to attack. Fortunately, the latest patch has made it possible for players to now call Torrent and defeat the Elden Beast without mobility being a problem.

Torrent Continues to Be an Essential Part of the Elden Ring Experience

Exploring the Shadow Realm won't be a lonesome journey.

Even though FromSoftware has vaguely hinted at the true size of Shadow of the Erdtree, there’s no denying that the new realm is going to cover a lot of ground. Shadow Realm is going to challenge players in complex ways, such as platforming through tight spaces and fighting bosses across big landscapes.

This will require players to seek the help of Torrent, and fans will once again find new ways of honoring the humble companion and traversing a newfound realm without feeling lonely. It’s a little surprising not to see a new way of roaming about in Shadow of the Erdtree, but Torrent has proven himself worthy all across the Lands Between, so we can keep trusting him.

While the new patch now makes the final battle a bit easier, there’s no evidence of something similar happening for another fight. That begs the question: do Elden Ring fans even need that? So far, boss battles have been fair when it comes to mobility, and we can expect to witness something similar with the DLC.
