It has been difficult for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to reach or surpass the bar created by itself after the release of Avengers: Endgame in 2019. With a score of 94% on the list, it was more than just a film for Marvel fans. The theatres were filled to the brim with die-hard fans who felt every bit of emotion throughout the 3 hours and were left in tears at the end. All in all, a 10/10 movie-going experience.

For a survey, over two thousand people took the time to vote for the best summer blockbusters of all time, and to no one’s surprise, Avengers: Endgame is on the list, right at the second spot. In fact, it is one of the three MCU films on there. However, Marvel fans wholeheartedly believe that it should’ve been ranked number one instead of Steven Spielberg’s iconic Jurassic Park.

According to a survey of over two thousand people conducted by Fandango, Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park is the biggest summer blockbuster of all time. Having been released in 1993, the film kickstarted one of the best franchises of all time.

Spielberg’s iconic movie was greeted with unending praise upon its release for everything from the story and special effects to sound and action sequences. There was not a single audience member out there who could find a fault in the film and perhaps that’s why it made over $914 million during its original theatrical run. Jurassic Park went on to surpass a billion dollars at the box office after a re-release in 2013.

Clearly, moviegoers know a classic when they see one.

On the other hand, Russo BrothersAvengers: Endgame fell a little short in the run to the first place. Arguably the best MCU film to date, it made $2.7 billion at the box office. Out of the ten movies on the list, Endgame has the second-highest Rotten Tomatoes score (94%), tied with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008). Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) is the film with the highest RT score (95%). However, on the list, the Star Wars film is at the fifth spot.

There are two other MCU films on the list – The Avengers (2012) in the ninth place and Avengers: Infinity War in the eighth.

The tenth position is occupied by the 1996 sci-fi classic, Independence Day.

Marvel Fans Believe Endgame Should be on Top

While the majority seem to agree with the ranking, many Marvel fans were in disbelief that Endgame came in second. They believe that the film deserved the number one spot on the list given its story as well as its insane box office run.

Endgame represents the culmination of over a decade’s worth of storytelling, character development, and interconnected narratives of all our favorite superheroes. Whether it was the thrills or the emotions, everything was absolute perfection and perhaps this is why fans don’t seem to be convinced that Jurassic Park could beat Endgame.

They took to social media to voice their disappointment stating:

Regardless of the rankings, both are masterpieces and two of the finest films to have graced the screens. There is no point in arguing about what goes where if every single entry on the list is absolutely epic.

Apart from the Endgame vs Jurassic Park debate, many movie fanatics were absolutely shocked to see that Spielberg’s Jaws did not make it to the list.

You can stream Avengers: Endgame on Disney+ and Jurassic Park is available to rent/buy on Prime Video.
