In 2023, Lords of the Fallen found success as potentially one of the best Soulslike games to have launched during that time window. Despite its mixed reviews, the game mostly garnered positive interest from those new to the subgenre.

Recent sources suggest that a sequel is officially in the works and will build on the game’s foundation, which made it so popular. However, its exclusivity to the Epic Games Store on PC might not sit well with a lot of fans.

CI Games Has Confirmed That Lords of the Fallen’s Sequel Is in the Works

The sequel will likely build on some of Lords of the Fallen's best mechanics.

According to Video Games Chronicle, the sequel to Lords of the Fallen will arrive on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. While there’s no exact information about what the game will feature or how the narrative shapes up to be, we can speculate the sequel’s focus based on what we know about the franchise.

If the game is anything like the first one, it can tell the story of events that occur after the last game’s conclusion. This comes from the fact that Lords of the Fallen was based on story told a thousand years after the events of the original game that came out in 2014.

The game has always shown potential to be similar to FromSoftware games, and it’s likely that the sequel will continue to build on punishing game mechanics with a lot of new content like weapons, armor, and even something unique that sets the game apart from other Soulslike titles.

The first game featured a mechanic that lets players switch two distinct realms as they understand how the worlds work. Similarly, the second game can bring in something new that switches up the way players experience the game.

The Sequel’s Exclusivity on Epic May Hurt the Franchise

It looks like the sequel is already being criticized before it's even out.

It’s not new for the Epic Games Store to have a highly successful title exclusively tied to the platform. For instance, Alan Wake 2 found a lot of success on PC despite of only being available to purchase on Epic. However, this may not be sustainable for every game studio, and fans aren’t in favor of this either.

User Underdrill on Twitter makes a great point about games being exclusively tied to the Epic Games Store. If Lords of the Fallen chooses to do the same, players will be missing out on a lot of key features that Steam offers and Epic isn’t even close to having at the moment.

This can be quite unfortunate for CI Games since Lords of the Fallen is a franchise that has always shown the utmost promise when it comes to being a faithful Soulslike game. However, we’re yet to see if there will be a change in plans or how the sequel does on other platforms.
