Spoiler Alert!
This article contains minor spoilers for The Boys

The Seven are very loose expys of the Justice League, as fans of The Boys comic series would know. However, as the show made changes to its storyline to adapt it for the screen, fans of the comics were surprised to learn that a character would not be making an appearance in the show.

Originally a core member of the team, Jack from Jupiter is a mix and match of a slew of heroes, but the ones that come to mind are Martian Manhunter and Hourman. Both integral members of the Justice League and Justice Society respectively, there expy Jack from Jupiter was not as important to the plot of the show and found himself replaced with Translucent.

Jack the Jupiter’s powers would not have made sense in the world of The Boys

Translucent was the replacement for Jack from Jupiter, as he too was able to turn himself invulnerable like the character. However, the character’s powers were activated by uttering a phrase, rather than some bodily ability, which would have been an odd fit in the world of The Boys, as it is depicted in the adaptation. While the comics take all the liberty they can with the powers of the characters, the show takes a more grounded approach and lots of other liberties with how Compound V works.

As a clear expy of Martian Manhunter, Jack from Jupiter is also disfigured, which would have made him stand out in scenes with him being a background character. And given the way the character would have had to appear, it would be too many resources invested in a nonconsequential character.

Having Translucent take his place was a smart move, given that the character would not have required as many special effects to get done. Further, given that he is a relatively minor character in the story, not as much had to go into his being rendered on screen.

Jack the Jupiter’s story was directly tied to another character who only had a cameo in the show

Terror is Billy Butcher’s do, who has a major role in the comics. However, the character has just a few cameos in the show. The comics see Jack the Jupiter murdering Terror after getting paranoid about The Boys having incriminating evidence about him.

Jack the Jupiter would go on to receive a personal visit from Billy Butcher, who would stab him multiple times before killing him. Given the amount of importance that Translucent’s death was given,  it is safe to say that the character was much better served in the show as compared to how Jack from Jupiter was treated.
