With news surrounding Far Cry 7 starting to finally be unveiled, the time that Ubisoft has properly stepped up may be upon us. Just recently, a credible leaker revealed who the next villain of the series may be played by, and if this turns out to be true, Vaas Montenegro will have some serious competition.

Ubisoft has been having a pretty great run lately, especially with the recently released Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. Along with that, Assassin’s Creed Mirage was also a success, so it’s safe to say the company is heading in a better direction overall. Regardless, it seems like the next villain in the company’s long-running first-person shooter franchise is going to be a game changer.

Far Cry 7’s Main Villain Reportedly Being Played by Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy

After one of 2023's biggest blockbuster films, Cillian Murphy may just be starring in one of gaming's future hits.
After one of 2023’s biggest blockbuster films, Cillian Murphy may just be starring in one of gaming’s future hits.

Credible leaker jOnathan on Twitter/X recently posted a cryptic tweet that showcased four images that all seemingly tie into the Far Cry franchise.

For starters, the first picture is of the man of the hour himself. But fans have begun speculating what the others could mean. For starters, the fourth image simply shows the number ‘7‘, which could obviously be a hint at the next mainline entry in the series.

The second image also hints at the direction of the reported overall narrative, a ticking time bomb that is set to 72 hours. Back in 2023, Insider Gaming reported that the game would be non-linear and that the story would revolve around you trying to save your family members in a 72-hour time period.

The third image is simply of a crab, which could hint at the setting of the game. Overall, it is highly plausible that this post is referring to Far Cry 7 and that Murphy will in fact be playing the antagonist in the upcoming game.

It is also important to note that jOnathan has a track record of accurate leaks, especially in the case of Ubisoft, and, more notably, Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Murphy playing the main antagonist wouldn’t necessarily be the most surprising thing ever, as Far Cry has previously gotten Michael Mando to play Vaas in Far Cry 3 and Giancarlo Esposito to play Anton Castillo.

This Could Be a Game Changer for Ubisoft

Far Cry 7 may just have the best villain of the series yet.
Far Cry 7 may just have the best villain of the series yet.

Murphy is currently one of the best actors working in Hollywood. His most recent role, Dr. Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan-directed Oppenheimer, was one of the best performances of 2023 in a year filled with excellent performances.

He has also starred in Batman BeginsDunkirk, Inception, and Peaky Blinders. Scarecrow, the main antagonist of Batman Begins, played by Murphy, was without a doubt one of the best aspects of that film. Not only is he an excellent actor, but he can also pull off villainous roles exceptionally well.

Far Cry has a history of having amazing villains, even if the games don’t completely live up to the mark. If Murphy really is playing the villain in Far Cry 7, then we may just possibly have a Game of the Year contender on our hands.
