Guess who’s back, back again. Hint, it’s definitely not Slim Shady but A Game of Thrones author who has infamously kept an entire fandom on the edge for over a decade.

George R. R. Martin seemingly comes bearing gifts in the form of a potential film or television adaptation of the popular video game Elden Ring. But fans – contrary to what the GoT executive producer must’ve expected – appear more jaded than thrilled. 14 years of waiting will do that to you.

George R. R. Martin’s Potential Elden Ring Project Has Fans Vexed

When George R. R. Martin alluded to a prospective Elden Ring movie or television series, he probably anticipated fans to be delighted, if not jumping with excitement. But delight seems to be the last thing on people’s minds; if anything, they’re exasperated.

The Fire & Blood author recently insinuated that the famous action-fantasy video game could be well on its way to an on-screen adaptation. “Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING,” Martin wrote on his blog. “I have nothing to say. Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor?”

But most fans, if not all, are demanding (mainly beseeching, at this point) Martin to finish writing the long-awaited sixth novel in the series, A Song of Ice and Fire, rather than cavorting from one incomplete project to an entirely new one (via Culture Crave on X).

Not to mention, The Winds of Winter isn’t the only novel left in the collection; the 75-year-old is also yet to pen the seventh volume, A Dream of Spring, which is expected to follow the sixth installment and conclude the globally renowned (and highly ambitious) fantasy series. And then there’s Martin, teasing an already-frustrated fanbase with a possibly new project.

Will George R. R. Martin Ever Wrap Up The Winds of Winter?

Well, that’s the hope. Or dream.

Not long ago, Martin – who hopped on his Not A Blog to update fans about the forthcoming Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on his Dunk & Egg novellas – slyly slipped in a nugget of information regarding The Winds of Winter. “By which time I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories (yes, after I finish THE WINDS OF WINTER),” he wrote.

If we’re to go by the timelines of the aforementioned projects, the exec producer of the Primetime Emmy-winning show may take a few more years to consummate the sixth novel.

Last we checked, the acclaimed author entreated fans to stop “pestering” him about being more than a dozen years late with The Winds of Winter release (via Screen Rant). Just a few months before that, Martin admitted that while there was some progress, it was not nearly “as fast” as either him or the audience would appreciate.

And the year before that, Martin’s publisher revealed that the book everyone has been yearning for is “about three-quarters of the way done” (via Esquire). Minus a release date, of course, lest the readers get disappointed yet again.

Alas, we’ve waited for so long. What’s a year or two more? Right?
