The film is a massive risk for the studio and its producers, Jerry Bruckheimer and seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton. After the unfortunate flop of Pitt’s 2019 movie Ad Astra, this sports action drama film would need to have something new to impress the fans and the critics.

Brad Pitt’s Formula One Could Be One Of The Most Expensive Movie Productions Ever

Speaking with Martin Brundle for Sky Sports F1 via Motorsport, actor Brad Pitt shared his excitement for Formula One, a movie that he is also producing.

I’m a little giddy right now, I’ve got to say, and it’s just great to be here, man. It’s the best time of my life. I mean, the vibe is amazing, but just to get to be a part of it in this way, and get to tell our story, and everyone’s been really cool with us.

Formula One has been reported by Puck’s Matthew Belloni to have a $300 million budget, one of the most expensive budgets for a sports film. At the time of the news, it was met with problems such as being unable to find a theatrical distributor.

The filming was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike which caused the production costs to increase. Another reason is that they used real actors driving real race cars. This would need the necessary training, equipment, and safety protocols to avoid accidents.

After the word has been shared on the Internet, there has been little to no excitement from fans about the upcoming Formula One movie. This already spells doom for the project because of its costly production.

Pitt would not want to repeat the underwhelming performance of his 2019 film Ad Astra helmed by James Gray. It only grossed over $127 million against a budget of $90 million. In the case of Formula One, a title that some fans find mediocre, the loss would be too much if it does not turn a profit.

Netizens React To Upcoming Formula One Movie

Fans are already feeling uninterested in Pitt’s Formula One movie. There have been criticisms about its title as well as its ability to churn money at the box office. Even with the actor’s star power and people’s obsession with F1 racing, it’s still a niche with a specific target audience. Check out netizens’ reactions below:

Pitt and the team would need more strategic marketing to promote the movie and attract more viewers. It would need about $800 million in global ticket sales to simple break even.

Formula One is an Apple Original Films production and is slated for a June 25, 2025 release.
