The GTA series is one of the most popular video game franchises of all time. Known for its violence and adult themes, many probably don’t know how extensive the lore of the games is.
GTA Online has kept the player base entertained for over a decade. Started out on the PS3 and now on the current generation, the stories of rival gangs continue in the online service.
Players of Grand Theft Auto 5 might remember the territory of Grove Street, how The Families once occupied the territory before the Ballas entered the scene. Especially if you played San Andreas, you’ll understand the full picture of the ongoing narrative.

In Rockstar’s massive multiplayer game, players can see two Ballas members in a jail cell. A subtle reminder to the community of The Families’ original ties and hopes of the gang to reclaim that area.

To those out of the loop, the famous territory was once occupied by The Families or Grove Street Families. Back during the San Andreas days, that’s the gang you were part of when you played as CJ, helping his brother as Underboss of the Grove Street Families.
Moving onto GTA 5, the territory of Grove Street has since moved from The Families and gone in favor of the Ballas. It’s still unclear what happened between games to flip the territory around and the whereabouts of CJ and other members is unknown too.
One may assume the area was lost due to CJ, Sweet, and other The Families members leaving in pursuit of goals outside of the gang lifestyle. That doesn’t mean players wouldn’t want to see The Families back running Grove Street as their territory.
Will The Families Ever Reclaim It?

GTA 6 is taking place in Leonida, a fictional state based on Miami, Florida. If we were to see the next chapter between gang violence in Los Santos, it wouldn’t be anytime soon.
It wouldn’t make sense for Rockstar to heavily push this story in Grand Theft Auto Online. The team likely want it to be a main focus in a solo title.
Fans are still clamoring for a San Andreas 2 or some follow up to CJ’s storyline as a fan favorite GTA character. CJ has been absent from the franchise since 2004 and yet, he’s one of the most recognizable characters of the franchise.
Maybe one day, Rockstar will return to his story and give fans a continuation of where he’s been all these years or continue to leave CJ’s ending open for interpretation. Whatever happened next for CJ and co. is up to the community’s imagination.
