5 Indie Games You Should Really Give a Try if You Haven’t Already

If one is looking for new games to enjoy and support the indie video game scene, these are our top 5 Indie titles released in June 2024.

#5 Dragon is Dead

The game is a must-try if one likes roguelikes.

At first glance, one can see that Dragon is Dead is inspired by incredible 2-D platformers and roguelikes like Dead Cells and Blasphemous 2. Team Suneat develops the game, and while it doesn’t offer something incredibly novel, many other Indie titles exist. Players step into the boots of a Dragon Slayer and make their way across the world in their quest to slay a dragon.

Since the game is currently in Early Access, it is not complete. The dialogue is too dull, and that takes a significant toll on the narrative. However, that doesn’t mean that the game doesn’t have a lot of potential. The game also doesn’t hold the player’s hand and expects them to figure out stuff independently.

The gameplay is snappy, and one can find oneself slashing away at enemies and dashing away from them in a split second, which makes the game incredibly fun. The platforming elements are entertaining to indulge in, too. The level-up system is intuitive and easy to follow, making the game accessible and recommendable.

#4 SunnySide

It is one of the only indie games offering life and farming sim.

SunnySide is a title that falls more into the category of Cozy games, which you can play after a long day. The game is a blend of farming simulation and life simulation. Boasting one of the most in-depth character creators in a farming sim game. The game is also designed with inclusion, allowing players to go beyond binary options and offering a slider for the gender they identify as.

There is a decent dating mechanic that allows players to establish meaningful relationships. The farming side of things allows players to take complete control of everything involved in the farming process. This includes ordering seeds and irrigating.

The game also allows players to engage in a card-based combat system and fight enemies as they venture into caves. This adds a new spin to the conventional formula of a life sim. That makes the game unique, and the free demo makes it easy to recommend.

#3 Still Wakes the Deep

Unreal Engine 5 isn’t a widespread choice for Indie Developers. But when the game is designed well and the engine is used at its full potential, it makes for a gorgeous spectacle.

Still Wakes the Deep is an unsettling title for all the right reasons. The title takes place in an oil rig, and the player takes on the role of Caz McLeary, who mistakenly discovers an alien life form, which then causes all sorts of commotion.

The game takes one dark turn after the other, and despite not being the game in an incredibly stable technical state, the narrative makes up for a lot of it. The game makes the player focus on staying away from any threat instead of being cavalier and trying to take things head-on in a very Alien Isolationesque manner. Overall, the game is a must-try.

#2 #BLUD

An innovative title that combines building, crafting, and RPG elements.

#BLUD will be a game that will appeal to 90s kids who loved the art style of shows airing on Cartoon Network during that time. The game is a top-down dungeon crawler, and it puts you in the shoes of Becky Brewster, who encounters a book with demonic writing.

That is when Becky channels her inner Buffy the Vampire Slayer and begins her quest to put down vampires. The game’s humor and writing are incredible and will make you laugh.

Despite playing it safe and not taking massive risks, the gameplay still captivates the player. The pacing takes some getting used to, as there is a lot of written dialogue in the game, but it all binds the story together. Overall, the game is a love letter to 90s kids.

#1 Until Then

Games like Until Then stay with you long after the story ends.

One of the best things a game can do for itself is to make someone feel things. To stay with you long after the plot ends. Until Then, is precisely a game like that.

The sidescroller has an incredibly detailed world. It is more of a visual novel which is oozing with passion. The plot is incredibly detailed, and the elements of mystery keep one hooked. The game also has a free demo for players before buying.

In the game, the world around the protagonist is seen to be recovering from an event that changed the world as people knew it. Mark, the protagonist, is ambitious and wants to be a successful pianist.
