Every soulslike game is in its own way different. While they might seem alike on the surface, games like Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls are different. There are a bunch of factors that make them stand apart: stories, characters, character progression, and most importantly, weapons. While these games often share weapon names, their functions are often pretty different from each other.

On the other hand, fans end up getting heavily upgraded versions of those weapons. Those weapons are often upgraded using the souls of bosses that players defeat. They can then fuse that boss’ soul to their weapon and get a more powerful one. Bloodborne does not have many weapons, nor does it have the ability to fuse weapons, yet this game has the most variety in weapons in a special way.

How is Bloodborne a soulslike game with the most weapon customizations?

Elden Ring is one of the largest soulslike games FromSoftware or any other developer has launched ever. This game features numerous bosses and around 308 weapons to choose from. These weapons range from swords and war axes to various kinds of bows.

This high number makes sense too, as a game of this size needs to be full of content and items to uncover. That’s how FromSoftware makes this game interesting too; every time people go, they find something new.

This cannot be said about Bloodborne, a very dark soulslike that FromSoftware and Sony launched back in 2015. It’s a much smaller game than Elden Ring; it might even be smaller than Dark Souls 3. Where Elden Ring has 308 weapons, Dark Souls 3 has around 91.

But Bloodborne has only 25 weapons to offer its fans. This game has the most mysterious setting of them all; this game’s world is no doubt very interesting to explore. Fans can dig through it to uncover new stories, new characters, and even new bosses.

No matter how much they dig, they will only find 15 right-handed weapons to equip themselves with. There are eight firearms and two torches; there’s also a shield, but the Bloodborne community sees it as a cruel joke and not a weapon.

So how does Bloodborne compete with games that have 308 and 91 weapons? Well, each one of the right-handed weapons in Bloodborne is a trick weapon. A cane can become a chain, a spear can become a cleaver, and an axe can become a long axe. Then gamers can pair them with their choice of firearm. Even Hidetaka Miyazaki believes Bloodborne has the greatest number of weapon customizations.

You can have many different combinations – so actually the amount of weapons in Souls is absorbed in Bloodborne by this customisation element and how someone can tailor a weapon to how they want to use it. In a way, the variety is still there, but it’s absorbed down on a customisation level, rather than in the quantity of actual weapons, much more than in Souls.

He simply means that these weapons can be used in any shape or combination. Gamers would have the most fun deciding what combination to use. They can also mix and match to find out which one kills that one annoying boss faster.

This is pretty interesting, as people get more variety in these 25 weapons than Elden Ring’s 308 weapons. Those weapons would repeat spears, swords, and bows, but each of Bloodborne’s weapons is unique.

The Bloodborne sequel and remake are still nowhere near being announced

Conversations around Bloodborne never stop; fans are always discussing that excellent, soulslike horror game. Yet, the developers and the publisher of this game, FromSoftware and Sony, refuse to make any statement about it.

There are some rumors of Bluepoint working on a remake, but it would have to be confirmed by Sony too. There is no confirmation on anything yet.
