Development on Wukong began in 2018, with games getting their first look at the title in 2020. Ever since then, people have wondered when they would finally get their hands on the game. Year after year, gamers expected a release date, only to be disappointed. Well, a release date was finally shown at the Xbox Games Showcase, and it’s much closer than anyone expected.

Black Myth: Wukong is set to hit shelves on August 20, 2024, and pre-orders for the title began after the reveal of the release date. The excitement for the game is at an all-time high, and it has become the top-selling game on Steam, surpassing even Shadow of the Erdtree, which is slated to release almost two months prior.

Given Wukong boasts over 160 different enemy types, stunning visuals, and a unique storyline all wrapped up in a Soulslike experience, it’s easy to see the hype. Given that the Elden Ring DLC is now less than two weeks from release, those who were going to pre-order the title have already done so. But it is still surprising to see an original game climb the ranks so quickly and beat out titles from established studios.

The people who stated Black Myth: Wukong might overtake Elden Ring in the Soulslike genre may have made the right call. It remains to be seen if the final game can live up to its expectations, but that hasn’t stopped people from placing their pre-orders to enjoy the various bonuses the studio will be providing with the digital and physical versions.

The Digital Deluxe Edition of the game will offer the Bronzecloud Staff weapon, a Folk Opera armor set consisting of Mask, Armour, Bracers, and Buskins, Wind Chimes Curio, and a digital soundtrack. The Physical Deluxe Edition takes it a step further with a steel case for the Steam Digital Deluxe Edition code, the Chaos at the Peach Banquet color print on a silk scroll, the Thunderstone Ring, the Wind Chime Necklace, the Gold Sun Crow Pin, and a 1:1 scale bronze ‘Constricting Headband.’

The Collectors Edition offers everything from the Physical Deluxe Edition but excludes the Chaos at the Peach Banquet print. It also adds the Teaching of the Heart Sutra color print on a silk scroll and a 40-cm figurine of the game’s protagonist. Compared to all this, the base pre-order will get the player a Trailblazer’s Scarlet Gourd.
