Elden Ring is the latest Soulsborne game to be produced by FromSoftware and the wait was more than worth it. The gaming community was enamored by the scope and lore, which led some to believe it was a story worth retelling through a different format.

Perhaps a live-action adaptation will be made for those who will never choose to pick up a controller and experience it firsthand. FromSoftware could expand from developing video games to partnering with other major film studios to bring this story to a theater near you.

An Elden Ring Movie Would Require Experienced Partners to Make It Happen

FromSoftware has single-handedly carried and pioneered the Soulslike genre and each new project is a massive step up from the rest. This genre is not for the faint of heart and requires a great deal of skill and patience, but some players discovered easier methods to defeat omnipotent foes in Elden Ring through magic and ranged attacks.

The difficult nature of the games usually discourages players from experiencing this story which opens a can of worms for the developers. Director Hidetaka Miyazaki recently sat down and spoke of other alternatives with The Guardian.

“I don’t see any reason to deny another interpretation or adaptation of Elden Ring, a movie for example,”

The director continued that the studio is not knowledgeable or equipped to pursue this project alone and would require talented partners in the film industry.

“But I don’t think myself, or FromSoftware, have the knowledge or ability to produce something in a different medium. So that’s where a very strong partner would come into play. We’d have to build a lot of trust and agreement on whatever it is we’re trying to achieve, but there’s interest, for sure.”

The gaming community has entered the golden age of live-action adaptation of video game franchises. Iconic games like The Last of Us, Fallout, and Uncharted all received decent to great adaptations across television series and movies, it would be unwise for FromSoftware to not follow through.

Miyazaki is open to the possibility of a movie adaptation but wants to do it in earnest. Perhaps the curse has been lifted but it still greatly depends on the execution and the people involved in the project which should be a priority for the developers.

Elden Ring Will Undoubtedly Be Pursued by Many Studios and Distributors

Some stories are worth retelling and the latest FromSoftware project was a collaboration between masters of different backgrounds. Miyazaki directed a handful of successful games but realized this story needed the influence of someone like George R. R. Martin.

The legendary author offered his skills to enhance the story being told and it gave the developers enough material to work with. Elden Ring is a rare piece of art that came to fruition from two experts in their respective crafts.

Miyazaki is proud of the success he and FromSoftware have achieved and wants to share it with the world regardless of their preference. The game is worthy of an adaptation and the developers should look into potential partners.
