During an interview between Hidetaka Miyazaki and a Japanese podcast known as Game No Shokutaku, which took place back when the first Dark Souls game had recently been released, there was a discussion over certain events that were intended to take place within the original game but sadly didn’t make the cut.
One of these events would have been rather similar to Lords of the Fallen‘s main mechanic, which was the ability to transfer between two different locations. Sadly, this mechanic didn’t make its appearance in Dark Souls due to the technology not being strong enough at the time, but eventually the content did make its appearance, just not in the way the developers intended.
According to Hidetaka Miyazaki, the Dusk of Oolacile Would Have Been an Event Before It Was Planned as DLC
During the interview between Hidetaka Miyazaki and Game No Shokutaku, certain characters and locations were discussed in relation to the game, and one of the characters that came up was a woman known as Dusk.
This character at the time of release was rather mysterious, as they could only be found in a certain location after defeating a crystal golem. Before the game’s release, however, she was supposed to have an entirely different story, as players were originally going to encounter events throughout the world that would send them to another world.
After the player is transported to this other world known as Oolacile, they are then tasked with saving Dusk within the kingdom. Sadly, this set of quests was eventually canned, as Hidetaka Miyazaki felt that there was no possible way that technology at the time could keep up with the event itself.
Eventually, these events would be turned into their own DLC as players were finally able to explore Oolacile and take on the different characters that were originally planned for the events that would take place throughout the old forest.
Players May Have Missed out on Some of the Best Side Quests in Dark Souls History
According to Hidetaka Miyazaki, the plans to have special events that take place throughout Dark Souls would have provided players with an even bigger and better experience than they did when the game finally did release.
Along with these events, there would have also been some improvements to the different locations throughout the world of Dark Souls that would have been used as event locations for players to explore as they attempted to rescue Dusk.
Unfortunately, this never came about, but players did receive a DLC, which eventually took them to Oolacile, as they eventually had the opportunity to save Dusk, but not as in-depth as Hidetaka Miyazaki was thinking about back when the game was originally being developed.
What do you think about the lack of world-changing events in Dark Souls? Would you have enjoyed the world-crossing event in the game, or was it better to wait for the DLC? Let us know in the comments what you think!
