House of the Dragon has become the latest piece in Game of Thrones’ masterful story. While many were concerned when the series was originally introduced, not only did it relieve these expectations, it exceeded them. The series follows House Targaryen in its prime, as it ruled over Westeros with an iron fist and throne.

Since the series brought about an entirely new story full of brand-new characters, the cast is completely new and is from all age ranges. Recently, the actor who plays Aemond Targaryen talked about the series as a whole, and he revealed some very surprising information about his relationship with the parent series.

One House of the Dragon Star Has Never Seen Game of Thrones

Aemond Targaryen is going to be a very important part of the second season of House of the Dragon. Although he was an interesting player in the story during the majority of the first season, in the final episode, he accidentally did the unthinkable and killed Emma D’Arcy’s Rhaenyra’s son, Lucerys, starting a war that his bloodline had desperately been trying to avoid.

Since he has caught the worst possible attention of the Queen, it is expected that he will be an important presence in the later seasons, During a recent interview with Comicbook, Aemond’s actor, Ewan Mitchell, talked about his character as well as the lengths he went to give a good performance.

I haven’t seen the original Game of Thrones. I have a confession to make. I’ve never seen it and I didn’t want to watch it going into this role.

Interestingly enough, he has never seen Game of Thrones and does not plan to in the near future.

Ewan Mitchell Made a Calculated Decision

Many fans believe that the only requirement to get cast in House of the Dragon is having watched Game of Thrones. This is why they would be surprised to learn that Ewan Mitchell has never seen the series. However, his reasoning behind making such a decision is quite interesting and makes a lot of sense.

The actor revealed that he has a very calculated reason why he does not want to watch the series. Since the spin-off series is set 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was even born, there are several spoilers for the new series in the original series. They paint a picture of how many characters will be remembered by history and blur the complexity of their reputations.

I didn’t want it to inform my decisions in any way, shape, or form, you know, whether it be consciously or subconsciously. I wanted to bring something fresh. Aemond is one of a kind, you know.

Knowing this, Mitchell did not want his performance to be affected by the things he learned in GoT, be it internationally or unconsciously. He wanted to find the character of Aemond himself and explore the intentions behind his actions, rather than having them explained away by the future.
