George Miller’s Mad Max Saga has been a long-standing franchise, which he started back in 1979 with Mad Max. The movie starred Mel Gibson in the lead role, and continued for two more movies till 1985. Then Tom Hardy came into the picture with the Mad Max reboot in 2015, which became a box office hit worldwide. But instead of continuing on its success, Miller decided to do a prequel movie with Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa.

In Mad Max: Fury Road, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron came together as Max and Furiosa to deliver a blockbuster. Unfortunately, Miller was unable to recreate the same magic with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, starring Taylor-Joy in the lead. And with the mediocre response of the latest movie, things are not looking too good for the franchise, which had plans to continue after the prequel movie.

Tom Hardy Gives an Unfortunate Update on Mad Max

Tom Hardy came into the Mad Max saga with Mad Max: Fury Road. The movie was a reboot of the OG Mad Max series starring Mel Gibson. While expectations were high, the movie exceeded all that and earned more than double the budget of the film. But it wasn’t just a commercial success, as Fury Road went on to win 6 Academy Awards out of ten nominations.

This success led to George Miller, the creator of the Mad Max saga, plan for further future installments. The first was Furiosa, a prequel story based on the character of Imperator Furiosa, who was played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road. The other was Mad Max: The Wasteland, which would be a sequel to the 2015 movie, with Hardy returning to the lead role. But a recent comment from the Venom actor during an interview with Forbes seems to have put a dampener on all those plans.

I don’t think that’s happening.

Given the mediocre response that Furiosa recieved upon release, even though it currently has a 90% score on the Tomatometer, the future of the franchise seems a little cloudy. Especially as it wasn’t even able to break even, with a pretty lackluster box office performance. Fans were expecting Tom Hardy to return to the role of Max in future installments, especially since he has a contract to star in three more movies in the franchise.

Tom Hardy is Gearing Up For His Last Dance With Venom 3

The Sony Marvel collaboration, other than the Tom Holland Spiderverse, has very few projects that they can proudly boast of. Thankfully, Tom Hardy’s Venom trilogy is there to save their hides. The first movie was a hit, leading to the story getting a longer tenure, and a sequel. And now, Hardy will be returning alongside his symbiotic friend with Venom 3, which will be his last dance with this particular superhero-verse.

Hardy is not just starring as Eddie Brock/ Venom in Venom: The Last Dance, he is also listed as a writer and producer for the movie. Talking to Forbes, he revealed that having this responsibility has been a very positive addition for him. And now he is open to way more avenues than he was, which is good to let his creative side out.

Being able to do things like Venom has allowed my shoulders to grow and understand that there are lots of different faculties and ways to pour creativity into output and art, and have creative colors in lots of different sectors.

Venom: The Last Dance is all set to be released on October 25, 2024.
