Season 4 of The Boys has received a very concerning audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and fans of the show believe that it has ‘gone woke’. This might have hurt the viewership of the show, as more and more negative comments keep piling up from the audience. However, before the anti-woke squad began directing criticism towards the show, The Boys almost got into some real-world controversy with one scene.

The Boys is a show that has a lot of gore and gratuitous violence, the kind that could be traumatic to some viewers. However, one scene in the show, as shocking as it is, has Homelander lasering a bunch of civilians as they turn on him, which just ends up being the character’s wishful thinking. This scene, which was shot on location, unfortunately, ended up being shot at a place that had some problematic real-world history.

Season 2 of The Boys had Homelander nearing his breaking point, such that public opinion was turning against the character, something he was not as comfortable with as he is in the later seasons. The pressure causes Homelander to daydream about lasering the civilians that have risen up in rebellion against him, which he does with some glee.

However, this particular scene was shot in Toronto’s Mel Lastman Square, the site of a horrible tragedy that left 10 dead and 16 injured. This caused a lot of agitation among the members of that community, with the local government also getting involved after the oversight caused some outrage.

John Fillion, a councilor for Toronto, was outraged as well, as he spoke to the Toronto Sun about the scene that was shot. He said:

I flipped out. There are people who work in this building, who went out onto Yonge St. to try to help the van attack victims — many of them are still traumatized. And think about the families and loved ones of those victims.

While some thought that this could lead to a law and order situation where the filming causes normal pedestrians to believe another attack of some sort is happening, Fillion made it very clear that it was about safeguarding the mental health of the people, as he could not have the members of the community confronted with images that were similar to that of the massacre.

The Boys Season 4 has been getting a lot of flak for ‘going woke’

Spoiler Alert!
This section contains minor spoilers from The Boys Season 4.

The Boys, some fans attest, is going woke, which has hurt the audience ratings for the show. As opposed to the first three seasons, audience ratings for the fourth season have taken a plunge, and fans blame the woke nature of the show, while others are clowning those who apparently, ‘have not been getting the hint.’

While the show has been tame so far compared to the previous seasons, there does seem to be a more outright criticism of the alt-right on the show, which has been ridiculed since the first season in more ways than one.

Most of the criticism seems to stem from the fact that Frenchie is depicted, who has exclusively shown attraction to women so far. However, the season opens with Frenchie in a relationship with a man, which some fans are sure is the show catering to left-wing sensibilities. There is also the fact that a black woman is introduced as the smartest person alive, which some audience members have interpreted as pandering.
