Jeffrey Dean Morgan and insects go a long way. Starting with Supernatural, the very 8th episode of the first season focuses on bugs and only those. So much so that the episode was even named after them. While the actor was not involved in the particular episode, the entire ongoing theme of the season was for the brothers to find their father, that is, John Winchester.
For his role in The Walking Dead: Dead City, the actor went above and beyond to get into character. So much so that he could easily be compared to Indiana Jones himself. While both have contrasting environments they developed from, there is one thing that ties them together, their dedication to get over their fears.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Overcame His Fears
Tell Jeffrey Dean Morgan to pick up a spiked bat and slam it against zombie heads and he’ll be all for it. Tell him to pick up a gun and shoot some angels and demons until they burst into flames, he’ll run to find the magazines. However, shooting a scene with cockroaches involved, where’s the exit door?
“I hated it,” Morgan stated. “I hated it when I read it in the script. I hated it when we shot it. I don’t like bugs.”
While filming for The Walking Dead spin-off, the actor was faced with a frightening situation he wished so dearly to somehow get out of. Speaking with Decider, he added that the script had introduced the idea of him having to face cockroaches.
He may not fear a lot but the one thing he is absolutely terrified of would be cockroaches. He claimed that the entire sequence was one he despised with a passion. The very pilot became a horrific experience for the actor.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan Became Like Indiana Jones
When speaking with Decider, Jeffrey Dean Morgan compared himself with Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones. Indiana Jones is most famously known for his adventurous take on archeology, however, another trait he holds is his crippling fear of snakes.
“Put me in with snakes and I’m okay. I’m like Harrison Ford with cockroaches as he is with snakes.”
Morgan commented about how was he put in a pit of snakes, which would have been much better than the cockroaches he had to face. While Ford isn’t as afraid of snakes in particular, his iconic character cannot say the same.
Both he and Morgan went head to head against their deepest and darkest fear and overcame them for the sake of their goals.
