Hundreds of attendees of the 2010 Glamour Awards in London watched in disbelief as the highly regarded actor, 83, attempted to poke fun at Corden’s weight before witnessing his taunts dramatically backfire. Yet, in the midst of what seemed to be a tension-filled affair, Zoe Saldaña shone through, sealing the moment with humor that had set the room alight with laughter once again.

The tension between the two escalated quickly, like a pot left on the stove for too long. Stewart was asked to present the Film Actress of the Year award to Avatar star Zoe Saldaña on stage. However, he used the occasion to be critical of Corden’s body posture. He advised the comedian not to stand in the back with his hands in his pockets because it made him appear disinterested in a place where people approached to collect their awards.

Stewart comments about Corden’s behavior on stage and the latter’s “belly” was like throwing gasoline on a fire. The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actor said:

From where I was sitting, I could see your belly. And that was from over there, at the back of the room.

And Corden didn’t hold back either, as he said:

Sorry, I’m waiting for the punchline. Go on… You could see my belly… and we can all see you dying [on stage] right now. Let’s go for it.

But leave it to Saldaña to swoop in like a hero and save the day. With her quick mind and sharp thinking, she diffused the situation with a cleverly crafted comeback that had everyone in stitches. The Avengers: Endgame actress, 46, addressed Corden after taking her award and said:

I like your belly but I’d pay to see Sir Patrick Stewart dying on stage any day.

Corden said to the crowd, “I feel bad for people who have not seen my belly”, after Stewart had exited the stage. The comedian, 45, then lifted his shirt and gave his stomach a quick rub.

It seems that time really does heal all wounds, as the two stars shared a heartwarming moment on The Late Late Show with James Corden’s penultimate episode (via Daily Express).

As we know, the tension between these two Hollywood heavyweights has been brewing for over a decade, stemming from an awkward on-stage clash. But with Stewart’s appearance on Corden’s talk show, all seemed to be forgiven as they embraced in a bear hug and exchanged some kind words.

The Fall of Eagles star commended Corden for “defying expectations” with his long-running talk show, and the pair shared a lighthearted and laughter-filled conversation with guest Mila Kunis. It was clear that any lingering animosity from their past altercation had dissipated, replaced by mutual respect and admiration.

Life is too short, therefore, to hang onto bitterness and anger. On the work front, Sir Patrick Stewart will next be seen as Charles Xavier / Professor X in Shawn Levy’s forthcoming much-awaited film Deadpool & Wolverine.
