During an interview with The Guardian, Luna was asked about Gilroy’s involvement in the movie, particularly for him being credited with saving it from disaster. In response, Luna stated:

I would say that is not the right way to put it.

Luna admitted that while the movie was in some sort of trouble, he refused to openly state that Gilroy receives complete credit for the final outcome.

The Narcos: Mexico actor admitted that while Gilroy brought some much-needed complexity to his character, there was no one particular way of reaching the destination in filmmaking. Hence, Luna’s comments implied that Edwards received as much credit for the final product as Gilroy did.

In the same interview, Luna was also asked about his take on the debate that Rogue One was one of the best movies in the Star Wars franchise. The interviewer exclaimed that in their opinion, the film was only behind The Empire Strikes Back in terms of overall quality due to its unusual daring and finesse.

I love you for saying that. I didn’t say it. But if you’d got me drunk, I would have said the exact same words.

Luna made the above statement, approving of the notion that Rogue One was one of the best Star Wars movies, second only to The Empire Strikes Back. Ultimately, he agreed that making Rogue One was a challenging, and at times confusing experience.

However, the actor admitted that every decision taken in the filmmaking process eventually benefitted the end product, resulting in the film’s $1.058 billion box office collection and two Academy Award nominations. Luna later reprised the role of Cassian Andor for the streaming series Andor, which is expected to conclude with its upcoming second season.
