Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves have the Midas touch. The director and actor have been instrumental in creating one of the biggest action franchises in Hollywood with the John Wick films. Reeves, who plays the titular character, first cemented his place as a true blue action star with Speed and The Matrix saga, and took this image forward to make it bigger and better with John Wick.

While Stahelski stated that a 5th film in the franchise is a definite possibility, fans have meanwhile manifested their desires by creating their own versions of what to expect in the film. A new fan concept trailer is adding even more hype to the already massive franchise by roping in Ryan Gosling to share screen space with Reeves. While this sounds like a delicious pairing on paper, would this idea work in reality?

This Fan-Made John Wick 5 Trailer Sees Ryan Gosling Joining Keanu Reeves

The John Wick franchise created by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves in the titular role has gained cult status in Hollywood. With 4 blockbuster installments that have redefined the aesthetic of action thrillers, the two collaborators have been the toast of the town for quite some time now.

Following the huge success of the 4th film, audiences across the world were already manifesting their desire to see Reeves and Stahelski back in a 5th installment. Now, a concept trailer by KH Studio is taking ambitious steps to imagine a 5th installment with none other than Ryan Gosling joining forces with Speed star.

The cleverly edited trailer takes scenes from Reeves’ earlier John Wick films and stitches it with segments from Gosling’s Blade Runner 2049. The video, though, also provides some food for thought regarding the hypothetical entry of the La La Land actor into the franchise.

To begin with, Gosling’s presence could add even bigger hype to an already iconic franchise headlined by one of Hollywood’s biggest action stars. The possibility of these two hugely popular celebrities sharing screen space and facing off against each other seems like a delicious prospect, with Gosling also having done his share of action flicks.

Conversely, this could also pose a tricky situation for the franchise. Sometimes, when two massive stars are roped in to headline a project, it could become a problem of plenty while also throwing up issues of who could get more prominence over the other. This could then reduce and dilute the importance of the narrative.

In turn, this could also affect the franchise, which has, till now, worked wonderfully thanks to Reeves’ star power and his seamless collaborative relationship with Stahelski. The concept trailer, too, may have unconsciously echoed these very same thoughts through a sentence in the video.

There is no mistake. This campaign is not to kill John Wick, It’s about to kill the idea of John Wick.

For starters, all eyes will be on Stahelski to furnish fans with more information on the development of a 5th film. It then remains to be seen if the stunt coordinator-turned-director brings another big- league celebrity to join Reeves.

Chad Stahelski Wants To Make John Wick 5 Under One Condition

As far as action franchises go, Keanu Reeves’ John Wick, directed by Chad Stahelski, is up there with some of the best film series in Hollywood. With 4 blockbuster installments, Stahelski used his vast experience as a stunt coordinator to create magic on screen with one of Hollywood’s biggest action superstars, Keanu Reeves.

With his prior success in The Matrix franchise, Reeves expanded his affinity for the genre by making the character his own. With the 4th installment also gaining huge popularity with fans, the onus is now on Stahelski to continue his success with the franchise by taking it forward.

But the director was clear that this can happen only if certain important pieces of the puzzle fell into place. In October 2023, in an interview with Inverse, Stahelski teased fans and got their hopes up by hinting that a 5th film could be a definite possibility if certain conditions were met.

I have notebooks and notebooks of s*it behind me, John Wicks 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. We have ideas for days. We just don’t have the story locked. I have no interest in doing the cash grab of bringing John Wick back for something.

From the above statement, it is clear that the franchise is extremely close to the filmmaker’s heart to try and manipulate or take advantage of its success and reputation in any way. Fans though, will be eagerly hoping that Stahelski is inspired enough to dive back into creating another narrative sooner rather than later.

All 4 John Wick films can be rented on Apple TV.
