Megumi’s Shikigami in Jujutsu Kaisen has always been an intriguing part of Gege Akutami’s series. For someone with the potential and ability to defeat Gojo Satoru, Shadow Techniques seem much more expressive and filled with layers as compared to other Cursed Techniques. Both in the manga and the anime, fans have been acquainted with one of his most ferocious and deadly Shikigami, Mahoraga.

Throughout the series, fans have seen Mahoraga being used to fight the most dangerous of foes. Those who cannot be defeated against sorcerers meet the wrath of Megumi’s Shikigami instead. Both Sukuna and Gojo know firsthand what is like to be on the receiving end of Mahoraga’s beating but one thing always looms over Megumi’s head, his lack of control.

Megumi’s Lack of Control Over Mahoraga in Jujutsu Kaisen

Throughout Jujutsu Kaisen, there are many changes that take place but one thing remains consistent, Megumi’s inability to control Mahoraga. While he took his time in perfecting every single Shikigami in his Cursed Technique, no one in the history of Jujutsu Sorcerers had ever managed to master control over Mahoraga. They were either left gravely injured or succumbing to their mortality.

Megumi found a way to work around this with his fight against Sukuna, willing to sacrifice himself in order to save everyone else. Moreover, he had never hesitated before summoning Mahoraga, so it was needless to say that he had the potential that could bring forth control over the Shikigami. While fans kept thinking that he would be the one to break the cycle and finally seek control, Sukuna took over him before any of that could happen.

Despite it all, there was still a way present before him all this time. In fact, one of his closest friends, Maki Zenin, is the key to Mahoraga’s control.

Maki Has the Potential to Tame Even the Wildest of Beasts

Maki Zenin’s heavenly restriction makes her invisible to many who rely on cursed energy to decide their targets. While she lacks any cursed energy, she makes up for that in brute force. This makes her a skilled fighter, equaling to those who are filled to the brim with cursed energy. Her body and soul being devoid of any cursed energy gives her the perfect advantage to stand before Mahoraga as well.

Maki and Mahoraga could have been equally beneficial to each other. Not only could the latter not detect her, but the advantage would be to turn both of them into stronger fighters. Maki’s potential could help Fushiguro in training Mahoraga, using her as a guide that cannot be injured or even be targeted by the monstrous Shikigami.

After her fight with the Zenin clan, having eradicated her entire family; Maki’s strength was beyond compare. She would have made the perfect opponent for Mahoraga, one that could easily tame the beast.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
