The Planet of the Apes franchise has long been part of popular culture and garnered a huge fan following since its debut in 1968. Its popularity in recent years led to a reboot film series starting with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. And now the fourth movie in the reboot series will be released soon, titled Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes.
Directed by Wes Ball and written by Josh Friedman, the movie’s box office predictions look promising. And if the predictions have any truth, Ball might be well on his way to beating Matt Reeves’ record in the 2.1 billion dollar franchise.
Wes Ball’s Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Eyeing 130M+ Worldwide Box Office Opening
After Matt Reeves concluded the Caesar saga of the rebooted Planet of the Apes film series in 2017, Wes Ball has taken over the reins and his Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes will be in theatres soon.
An incredibly promising feature, and fans are excited and geared up to watch the film. The eagerness among fans is such that the movie is expected to make more than $50 million domestically and overall $130 million worldwide (via Deadline)
Set in a dystopian future, several years after Andy Serkis’ Caesar’s reign where humans are reduced to living among the shadows and apes are the superior species, the movie can well break the record of the $2.1 billion franchise (via The Numbers).
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes by Matt Reeves went on to earn about $100+ million worldwide during its opening weekend (via Variety). Its sequel movie, War of the Planet of the Apes too went on to gross $100+ million worldwide during its opening weekend with $56.5 million being the domestic gross (via Entertainment Weekly).
If Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes box office projections come true, Bell would break Reeves’ record and potentially make it one of the highest-grossing Planet of the Apes movies of all time.
