The new trailer showcased during the showcase was pretty impressive. It revealed more of the stunningly detailed environments, from the dense jungle to murky swamps, all enhanced by the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5. Fans were treated to familiar scenes with a new level of realism including detailed mud textures, ambient lighting, and vibrant wildlife.

The gameplay footage started with the opening sequence of the game with Major Zero. We got our first look at some combat and gunplay, and more of the CQC and traversal mechanics, as well as some short clips of a few big action sequences from the game. The two-minute trailer ended with a look at The Boss.

While the gameplay remains faithful to the original, the trailer hinted at some enhancements that could make the experience even more immersive. Players can expect the same gripping story filled with fan-favorite characters, an engaging world from the original game, with updated visuals and smoother mechanics thanks to the power of Unreal Engine 5.

The environments, from the iconic bridge that Snake climbs across, to the familiar lair where you meet Ocelot for the first time, are recreated with stunning fidelity. This blend of old and new could bring in both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Despite the visual overhaul, the core of what made the original game a masterpiece will hopefully remain intact. The remake aims to retain the intricate level design and atmospheric storytelling that Kojima’s former Metal Gear games are known for.

As of now, there’s still no official release date for the remake. It is still expected to release later in 2024. In the meantime, those wanting to relive the original can check out the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, which includes an HD version of the first three original games.
