With what is being touted as the scariest, most nerve-jangling film of this year a day away from release, the air is thick with a skittish synergy of nerves and excitement. And the first reveal of Cage’s look as the haunting villain in the film just magnified the sensation.

You’re Not Ready For Nicolas Cage’s Spine-Chilling Look in Longlegs

The genius marketing tactics associated with Oz Perkins’ Longlegs already caused a wave of uproar and anticipation among fans waiting for the scare of their lifetime. Adding to that frenzy is the first look at Nicolas Cage as the sinister serial killer, and it’s terrifying, to say the least.

Meanwhile, fans in the comment section are equally thrilled and spooked at the sight of Longlegs, with one user remarking how the actor and film producer has been involved in “some terribly weird movies [in] the last few years.” And “terribly weird” films indeed seem to be Cage’s forte, if his recent projects are anything to go by.

Just last year, the Ghost Rider star accoutred as the iconic vampire Count Dracula in Chris McKay’s Renfield and starred in a horror comedy titled Willy’s Wonderland back in 2021. Not to mention, his latest film, Arcadian – which premiered just a few months ago in April – was also a post-apocalyptic action horror. And now, Cage, 60, is back in another bizarre yet highly-anticipated outing as Longlegs.

Nicolas Cage Scared the Life Out of His Co-star in Longlegs

Fans aren’t the only ones terror-stricken by the Oscar-winning actor’s upcoming horror venture. Even his Longlegs co-star was in a cold sweat the first time she saw Cage as the eponymous serial killer.

In a promo released on X, a clip captured Maika Monroe’s (Lee Harker) unfiltered reaction to her co-star’s blood-curdling appearance in the movie which the actress described as an indelible and “a visceral experience.”

“The first time Maika Monroe saw Nicolas Cage as Longlegs, was in the following scene,” the video stated. “What you’re about to hear is Maika’s actual heartbeat […] Maika’s resting heart rate is 76 BPM. In this scene, it hit 170 BPM.”

Talking to IndieWire, Monroe, 31, remarked how “disturbing” an experience it had been for her to witness Cage as Longlegs for the first time.

No one showed me any photos of him. Oz wanted it to be a complete surprise for that scene when we interact for the first time. Just imagine that. It was completely shocking and overwhelming […] It was insane. It was absolutely insane!

Well, at least you know what to expect from the movie (nothing but nightmares, of course).

Longlegs premieres in cinemas on July 12, 2024.
