In the latest interview, the showrunner revealed the reason behind taking up this song in the season.
The Pitbull song resonates with Bridgerton Season 3 love story
Speaking with Business Insider, Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell disclosed the reason behind choosing the stripped-down cover of Pitbull’s Give Me Everything by Archer Marsh in season 3. This song makes an appearance in episode 4 when Colin and Penelope confess their feelings in the carriage which leads to an intense makeout session. She said she had no idea which song this was when she heard it but liked the way it was built.
She emphasized that the song was an unusual choice, but it was undeniably fitting given the storyline of season 3. The momentum of the song perfectly reflected the couple’s journey, with Penelope’s long-standing crush on Colin finally reaching its climax.
I listened to a lot of slower romantic songs, but none of them felt like they had the right impact and the right build and the right crescendo. And that Pitbull song has so many builds within it that it just, I think, kind of nails the dynamic that’s happening in the scene.
So the creators took the risk and it certainly paid off because the cover has been making rounds on social media since the new season arrived on Netflix.
Why does the show incorporate orchestral covers of pop songs?
The orchestral covers of pop songs have been an integral part of the Bridgerton universe since it first debuted on the streaming giant. From Ariana Grande’s Thank U Next to Stay Away by Nirvana, several songs have been included in the show. In an interview with Today Show, the show’s music supervisor stated that they chose pop music covers so viewers could resonate with each moment.
Pop music can have so much drama and romance. What the show does is heighten these kind of everyday feelings of romance that people have throughout their lives. And it’s fun to hear a song that you’ve had a connection within your own life transposed into this string quartet version that is playing with and affecting the characters’ lives throughout the show.
The team wanted people to bring their emotions into the storyline and feel as if they were a part of that world. Well, this plan did work and audiences have become obsessed with these covers.
