One such creator is Tatsuki Fujimoto, the mangaka of Chainsaw Man. During an interview with Shuiesha last year, Fujimoto was asked for his opinions about Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. He had a lot to say about the studio and Miyazaki and also talked about his films that have changed the entire scene of the anime industry.

However, while talking about Miyazaki, Fujimoto pointed out one particular trait of the creator that makes him different from other filmmakers and directors. Fujimoto also stated that he believes that this trait would no longer be found in others.

Tatsuki Fujimoto Explains The Difference Between Hayao Miyazaki and Other Creators

Fujimoto’s interview with Shueisha was later translated and shared by @lightningclare on X(Formerly Twitter). While talking about Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Fujimoto explained Miyazaki’s ability to create fantasy works that are not specific to one region. This is because he knows a lot about other countries as he has visited them quite often.

Fujimoto stated:

“For example, Director Miyazaki knows a lot about other countries, so he can create fantasy works based on one specific or several countries. However, for otakus who are in their 30-40s like us, if you asked them “to draw a fantasy” then it’d end up like the world setting from a Final Fantasy game.”

According to Chainsaw Man’s creator, Hayao Miyazaki’s trait of creating fantasy work is his unique talent and if creators like Fujimoto are asked to draw fantasy worlds, it would be like something out of a final fantasy game, which is not as interesting or captivating as Miyazaki’s works.

Miyazaki’s fantasy works like The Boy and the Heron, Spirited Away, Suzume and Princess Mononoke are truly unique and their world-building has been considered the best by many.

Tatsuki Fujimoto Believes That Nobody Will Ever Be Like Hayao Miyazaki

During the interview, Tatsuki Fujimoto also pointed out that there will never be another creator who could make a fantasy world like Miyazaki. He points out that Miyazaki’s knowledge about other countries doesn’t come from research but from his own experiences which makes the world settings in his works unique.

“From an academic perspective, I think people who can create works like Director Miyazaki will be no more later on. Of course, one can create works based on their own gathered research, but I have a feeling that people who spend money to specifically travel abroad for research will be no more.”

Fujimoto believes that other creators won’t put in the effort to travel to other countries for research like Miyazaki did. Although they can create works based on their own research, they won’t have the same feeling as Miyazaki’s works.
