Activision‘s FPS franchise will go down in history because not only has it managed to gain a cult following, but it has also remained relevant for more than two decades. Similar to every franchise, there were some games that most fans loved and some that couldn’t fare well.
Per fans, titles like Ghosts, Advanced Warfare, and Infinite Warfare aren’t exactly the most robust games in the franchise. They were also some of the worst-rated titles on the review aggregator website Metacritic.
But now that recent installments have truly tanked the standard of the franchise, a fan asked on the series subreddit if previous games were as bad as most people make them out to be

In the post, OP also mentioned that he wanted sequels to these games set in the future. That may be unlikely given that despite the decrease in quality, the series is still profitable for the publisher, and sticking to a working that will be much less risky for the company.

Activision’s premier FPS series has recently been somewhat of a letdown for series veterans. Many have felt that the makers now focus on profitable game modes. Microtransactions and ridiculous cosmetics make the latest games feel more like Fortnite than hardened military shooter video games.

Indeed, nostalgia can sometimes make up for poor quality in video games. Still, fans on the series subreddit didn’t let nostalgia or the disappointment from releases cloud their judgment.
Readers would note in this post from Reddit that some players value the multiplayer element of titles in the series a lot more than the campaign. This may explain why recent titles have had concise and unfulfilling campaigns.
