From The Princess Diaries to The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway has bestowed the film industry with some of the most unforgettable and iconic films throughout her career.
An Oscar-winning actress and one of the most considerate celebrities you’ll ever come across, Hathaway has time and again lived up to The Queen of Genovia sobriquet. And yet, she has met with unwarranted resentment from the public over the years.
Despite that, however, Hathaway continues to be the paragon of politeness and one of her public interactions stands testament to her perennial kindness.
Anne Hathaway is One of the Sweetest Souls in Hollywood
All the Hathaters are about to be silenced real quick.
Internet personality Hailey Sani posted a clip of Anne Hathaway – while she was on her way to the NYC red-carpet premiere for The Idea of You – on Instagram, earlier this year in April. In the video, the acclaimed star can be seen interacting with someone in the most gentle, pleasant way you could imagine.
“Gotta go do the thing,” Hathaway, 41, says in the clip, referring to the premiere awaiting her. “Wanna hug you. So happy to see you. You were wonderful in the movie,” she responds to the person who called her out after giving them an air kiss. How can people hate someone who’s so courteous yet affectionate?
An army of fans have commented under the reel, defending the Interstellar star against the gratuitous hatred that is hurled at her. One user noted, “People hate how clear she is with her boundaries,” while another wrote:
People hate on her because she isn’t playing. Her industry is sick and she’s setting healthy boundaries. The people who hate you for setting boundaries are the ones who profited from you having none.
Not to mention, this isn’t the only recorded instance of Hathaway being the embodiment of grace. The Intern star has been captured gentle-parenting her fans on more than one occasion, setting firm boundaries whilst simultaneously maintaining her genteel demeanor.
Why Have People Been Bad-Mouthing Anne Hathaway?
Hathaway is one of the most successful, talented, and compassionate figures in the industry. Then why is it that the public has been so bitter towards the former soprano?
As it turns out, the We Crashed alum has been on the receiving end of unjustified censure for more than a decade now. After landing a bevy of awards for her awe-inspiring performance in Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables, people started to bash Hathaway for seemingly sounding phony in her Academy Award speech and things took a tailspin for worse (via El Pais).
No sooner had the gossip flared than a hashtag was dedicated to the foul cause of hating Hathaway – #Hathahate. Yikes. Then came the infamous 2013 article titled ‘Do We Really Hate Anne Hathaway’ by The New York Times wherein people berated the actress for “being so perfect that she’s not a normal person.” So, in a nutshell, what sparked this fuse of animosity toward Hathaway was more or less envy.
Nevertheless, Hathaway remains undeterred and continues to be a beautiful person to everyone she meets.
Her latest movie, The Idea of You is available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
