Secrecy and proficiency are two of the strongest tools in Rockstar Games’ repertoire for making games. Much of Red Dead Redemption 2’s polish came from the project not being talked about publicly during its development stage.

Keeping the same philosophy alive, the upcoming title GTA 6 too has been a quiet project for Rockstar, and there’s little information about what’s truly going on behind the scenes.

User SpringJungle on Reddit recently brought to light Rockstar’s secrecy when it comes to making sure no one knows about what’s going on with a project. In the case of Red Dead Redemption 2, over 1200 actors voiced 500,000 lines of dialogue in the game.

Add to this the fact that the game was in development for eight long years, you’d likely be wondering how much more we can expect from GTA 6 since the game has been in development for over a decade now.

However, due to strict NDAs and contracts at Rockstar Games, actors and creators simply cannot talk about the game’s development process. In the past, Red Dead Redemption 2’s Roger Clark has spoken about his feelings regarding strict NDAs in the industry.

While it certainly helps the studio stay focused and keep things under the garb of anticipation, not every member of the team is going to be okay keeping big secrets, let alone capable of it.

Stricter NDA, Better Game?

In September 2022, some of the early development footage of GTA 6 was leaked online. This caused an uproar in the gaming community and the hype for the next game in the Grand Theft Auto series was at an all-time high.

After that, the only real glimpse at the game fans received was through the trailer that came out six months ago. To this day, the community can’t help but wonder what Rockstar is hiding from us.

It’s safe to assume that all the secrecy for the upcoming game exists for a good reason. Not only does this help the creative process, but it also markets the game’s anticipation giving players enough reason to trust in Rockstar’s development process and the game the moment it launches.

In a parallel universe, the moment any part of the gaming community got involved with Rockstar Games’ creative process, things may turn out differently from GTA 6.

The reason is that Grand Theft Auto games are usually a mockery and parody of ongoing real-life scenarios. In the case of GTA 6, social media and consumerism are going to play big roles in the narrative. If actual people outside the company got involved in the development process, things would have to be politically correct towards a certain point.

Regardless of the true reason behind Rockstar’s secrecy, it’s best to assume that these NDAs are in place for a reason. Why do you think this is the case? Let us know your thoughts on GTA 6’s development process in the comments below.
