The prequel series has already unraveled loads of drama in the first season, be it the conflict’s origin or the massive time loop that left us thinking about whether we jump into a completely new season or not. But, things eventually started to wrap up only to kick off the events for the next season.

Apart from heavy politics, the series just like its predecessor Game of Thrones, didn’t shy away from showcasing gritty elements that get brutal with time. However, the first episode of Season 2 has angered fans all across social media but the reason is not a gruesome murder scene but animal cruelty.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel, House of the Dragon is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The franchise is infamous for its brutality however fans are extremely disturbed after this particular moment, which feels a little insensitive. However, it is still a scene that evokes many emotions among the audience.

The cruel treatment of a dog enraged the audience, but it is still less than what the franchise has showcased. Many horrific episodes indulged into brutal moments that happen to everyone be it human or animal. Violence and assault have all been shown in the GOT which was toned down yet still present in HOTD.

The moments are numerous starting from what GOT showcased, which felt too unjust at times. Starting from what Daenerys Targaryen went through in Season 1, she was repeatedly assaulted by her (forced) husband Khal Drogo, after her brother sold her to him.

Oberyn Martell’s death counts as one of the most gruesome scenes as his head was squashed and his eyes gouged out, which only heightened the show’s violent nature. In the disturbing scenes list, Jaime assaulting Cersei next to Joffrey’s dead body was yet another moment that felt too awful.

In Season 3 of GOT, fans witnessed another gory moment when a pregnant Talisa Stark was repeatedly stabbed in the stomach. Robb Stark was stabbed in the heart and Catelyn had her throat cut. As to what pushed them to their deathbed, it happened after Robb broke his contract with Walder Frey. The Red Wedding was one of the series’ biggest tragedies, bringing several disturbing scenes that fans can’t forget.

Even Shireen’s death felt horrifying as her father burned her on a pyre, who was just an innocent child. Ramsay Bolton assaulting his wife, Sansa Stark, is yet another controversial moment as he forced Theon (whom Sansa considered to be her brother) to watch him commit the horrifying act.

The fantasy world of dragons is filled with violence and assault, which has often led viewers to think that the show has crossed its lines. While HOTD has toned down its graphic content, it is still unbearable for many to watch.

The House of the Dragon is streaming on Max.
