Elden Ring’s long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is finally out. But before the DLC came out, FromSoftware launched a patch for the base game. Amongst the many changes in the patch is one where you can now summon Torrent during the game’s final boss fight against the Elden Beast.
While the patch was meant to simply serve as a precursor for the DLC’s release, fans are excited about this change.
You Can Now Fight Elden Ring’s Final Boss on Horseback
There has been long-standing speculation among fans that the Elden Beast fight was designed with Torrent in mind. The vastness of the battlefield and the boss’ tendency to teleport around the arena make it very annoying to fight it on foot. As fans have noted on social platforms like X, this is a very welcome change.

This is why FromSoft is the best.
Before this patch, players even admitted to using mods to forcefully enable Torrent for the Elden Beast fight. And according to them, it’s an absolute game changer.
I just saw someone beat the Elden Beast with cheat engine enabling use of your horse Torrent during the fight, and this was absolutely the way the boss was meant to be played. This is one of the biggest design fumbles in an otherwise amazing game I can think of off the top

And while you do have some fans stating, “I dont like it, makes the fight easier”, the majority of fans seem to be loving this change. Even though it does technically make it easier.

The new patch, released on June 20, 2024, includes other updates and upgrades. These include new keyboard and mouse settings for Steam users, five new hairstyles, and a recent items section in the inventory for better management.
This update, which isn’t even the DLC, received a positive reaction even on other platforms like Reddit. Players express relief at FromSoftware’s implementation of feedback. It has definitely rekindled players’ interest in the game.
Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is Better Than Anyone Thought
We’ve been waiting for it, and it’s here. The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring has come out to an overwhelmingly positive reception by fans. It introduces players to the Land of Shadows and focuses on the character of Miquella. It is one of the largest areas FromSoftware has created, adding new story elements, bosses, weapons, and a whole new area to explore.
The expansion takes place in a new area called the Land of Shadow, which is described as an alternate reality related to the Lands Between. This area is linked to Queen Marika and its lore allegedly includes a war she waged in the past.

The main antagonist in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is Messmer, also known as Messmer the Impaler, who seems to wield flame magic similar to the giants and is possibly another child of Marika.
The positive response of the community, for not just the expansion, but also the general patch shows just how important it is to consider fans.
