However, his love for surfing ran deeper than acting, as he was a lifeguard and a surf instructor. Perry was considered to be one of the best surf instructors, and it was his experience on the sea and his near-death experiences that made him so qualified as an instructor. However, his life was cut short after he became a victim of a shark attack in Hawaii.

Born and raised on the islands of Hawaii, Tamayo Perry’s love for surfing flowed through his veins. The actor honed his skills and took on the challenges that the Pacific Ocean had to offer. His surfing experience was full of epic moments, and in a blurb on the Oahu Surfing Experience, where he was an instructor, he shared how surfing on the “world’s deadliest wave” almost became a “near-fatal experience.” He wrote,

A number of years ago while surfing Pipeline on the Extra Large size, I was involved in a freak accident that turned into a near-fatal experience. The incident happened all because of someone elses lack of awareness. The lessons I’ve taken from that event have inspired me to my goal of instilling proper surf etiquette and safety into those whom I teach.

However, in a tragic incident, the 49-year-old surfing icon died after he was attacked by sharks. According to reports coming from the emergency services confirmed at the conference, Perry, aged 49, had died in a vicious shark attack.

Around 13:00 local time, the medical services were called to Malaekahana Beach. However, by the time he was brought to shore by jet ski, he was pronounced dead.

Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more. Our condolences go out to Tamayo’s family.

Mayor Ricky Blangiardi called Perry’s death “a tragic loss” and paid his final respects to the “legendary waterman.” He said,

Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected, [he] grew up right over here, and just a great member of our ocean safety team.

While Tamayo Perry loved surfing, he also had a knack for acting, as he appeared in the 4th film of Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Charlie’s Angels 2, Hawaii Five-O, and many more.
