James Gunn and Peter Safran are carrying a huge weight on their back. It is not easy to bring to life a cinematic universe chronicling the adventures of characters in DC Comics. And the reboot of the DC Universe is still in its nascent stages, with filming for Superman: Legacy, which is the first chapter in the reboot of DCU, having kicked off in January, 2024 only.
No wonder people are wondering how the new folks are adapting to their roles, especially David Corenswet’s Superman. And Isabella Merced has heaped praises on the 31-year-old’s portrayal of the man from Krypton.
Isabela Merced is having the time of her life
It’s been a busy year for Isabella Merced. From filming Superman: Legacy, to promoting the latest entry in the Aliens franchise, Alien: Romulus, she is doing it all. She wouldn’t complain though. After all, anyone would count themselves lucky if they got an opportunity to work with the likes of James Gunn and Fede Álvarez.
Yet they aren’t the only ones she feels blessed to have worked with. While speaking to Screen Rant about Alien: Romulus, the 23-year-old was questioned about the progress of the Rachel Brosnahan starrer, and particularly about David Corenswet‘s portrayal of Superman.

Isabela Merced couldn’t help but express her awe for the Pearl star. She said,
“That man is an angel.” (Screen Rant)
For the Madame Web star, what left her awestruck was how grounded and patient Corenswet was. She spoke of him as a man who was ready to adapt, and said,
“He is very much Superman. He very much has that energy, and I admire working with him. His patience is incredible with his little tight suit on those hot days! I mean, he never complained once.”
These words will be music to DC Comics’ fans, who are expectant of seeing the franchise scale the heights they would have expected the DCEU to.
James Gunn and Co. have high expectations from David Corenswet
James Gunn knows the importance of Superman: Legacy. It is after all the first frontier for the DC Universe, and one that would be hard to overcome. Say what you will of the DCEU, fans loved Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Kal-El. No wonder he was one of DCEU’s most valued properties. And that is the mountain the 31-year-old would have to surpass.
David Corenswet will fancy his chances though. Early pictures from the set have given fans a sneak into his look as Clark Kent. And fans are full of praise. If Isabela Merced’s review is anything to go by, DC’s most bankable character is in safe hands. It is anybody’s expectation that he will come good, getting the DCU reboot off to a rollicking start.
