James Gunn‘s Superman is currently filming in Cleveland, Ohio. The page described it as Mayhem in Metropolis. Another leaked photo showed a dog in the Superman suit. While some fans speculated it to be Superpup Krypto, others were pretty sure that it was a fan’s dog all dressed up to meet David Corenswet‘s hero. Fans are having extensive discussions on both the set photos.

One fan doubted whether the attack on Superman was the doing of Metamorpho. This superhero’s body can turn into any elemental compound or substance at will, raising the doubt that he could indeed be the pile of rubble pulling the Kryptonian down. Anthony Carrigan was confirmed to play the character in the film.

Another fan also shared the doubt about how a being as powerful as Superman was stuck in a hole of stone, making the Metamorpho theory more plausible. Fans also shared their opinion that the dog could be Krypto and he was there to save the day for Superman. Some fans didn’t want the dog to be Krypto since it would be a major spoiler for them in the film. Some of the fan reactions read:

Besides Krypto, fans also speculated the appearance of another major DC character due to a leaked photo of another cutie on set. In the photo, the Man of Steel appears to be interacting with a squirrel (via cleveland.com). Fans speculate that it could be the Green Lantern named Ch’p, who is a contemporary of Hal Jordan.

Superman’s baggy costumes already received criticism after James Gunn shared the first look poster via his Instagram handle. The hate towards the costumes and several set pieces has only increased ever since the Cleveland set photos started appearing on the internet.

The suits of Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific also did not impress many fans. Many people criticized them, sharing that they looked like the suits from the CW/DC universe.

However, some comic book fans appreciated the accuracy with which they were portrayed, including the Lord Tech logo, hinting that these were corporate costumes sponsored by Maxwell Lord. Gunn tried his best to hide his film and characters from the public eye with black hoods and umbrellas. It clearly didn’t work due to the broad daylight shoot.

When a fan asked about the leaked set photos, Gunn shared on Threads that it was “fully expected”. However, when asked if any of the photos contained spoilers, Gunn shared that he would never shoot a big spoiler in the middle of the city.

Superman is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
