The Star Wars franchise started its Hollywood journey back in 1977 with the George Lucas-helmed movie. Since then, it has produced many more projects, including live-action and animation, for both TV and movie. Its latest presentation is The Acolyte, a Disney+ series set at the end of the High Republic era. It happens all before the main story of the saga starts with the prequel series, and then the Skywalker series.
The Acolyte has been getting a lot of criticism since it premiered. For its story, characters, and a lot of other parts of the show that fans have been less than impressed with. But it is not the only show that has been getting trolled recently, as an animated project – Tales of the Empire – is getting similar reactions from fans.
Star Wars: Tales of the Empire Includes a Non-Binary Character In Its Storyline
Star Wars: Tales of the Empire is an animated show, with a six-episode-long storyline. It is the second installment of the Tales anthology, following Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi. The show has a pretty good rating, but some things didn’t go all too well with fans. One of them is the show introducing a non-binary character to the story out of the blue.
In one episode, two soldiers are seen hunting a Jedi. While looking for the character, the soldiers are told that “they” are hiding in the mountains. Later in the story, when one of the soldiers kills the Jedi, the other is heard saying, “They’re still alive,” followed by, “We need to get them to the ship. They’re still alive.“
While this is just yet another attempt by Disney at inclusivity, things didn’t go too well with fans, who are miffed with the parent company trying to force make everything “woke.” Social media has been the center of it all, where many fans of the franchise have come forward to say how these specific inclusions feel like Disney is forcing ideas onto their viewers.
Fans Troll Star Wars: Tales of the Empire For It’s Characters
While some fans are more or less nonchalant about the inclusion of a non-binary Jedi in the storyline, others are not too happy with it. Instagram user theisabelbrown took to her social media platform to say:
In what world are Sith Lords, working for the Empire, defeating the Jedi, evil enough to slaughter you, to stab you with a lightsaber, but they’re polite enough to respect your pronouns?! The math ain’t mathing, for me, if we’re being honest.
Some fans came in with a similar tone and blamed Disney for destroying Star Wars with their woke agenda. While others stood in support of the inclusion, and some even made a joke out of the scene.

Fans are, as always, divided on the matter. The show, on the other hand, has had some positive reviews overall, with an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
