James Gunn and the team are working hard on Superman, which was once called Superman: Legacy. The film will be out next year and die-hard DC fans will know for sure if David Corenswet was the right choice or not. So far, things were looking quite promising for the film that is, until leaked photos from the set showed a glimpse of Green Lantern and Hawkgirl’s costumes.

A majority of the fans seem to be of the opinion that Hawkgirl’s outfit looks absolutely insane and not in a good way. After looking at the set leaks and Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, DC fans have a newfound respect for Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam which was once at the receiving end of unending trolls.
Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl Costume Raises Fans’ Eyebrows
While everything seemed to be going well for James Gunn’s upcoming film, the new Hawkgirl costume has proven to be a hiccup on the road. Most of the fans were not happy to see Isabela Merced sporting a white outfit with black and gold accents, standing beside Nathan Fillion‘s Guy Gardner.

This led to many fans comparing Hawkgirl’s suit to that of Hawkman’s in Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. In their opinion, Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman looked far better than Merced’s Hawkgirl in terms of their costumes.
On the other hand, though, some fans also pointed out that these weren’t the official suits of the characters but rather Maxwell Lord suits since they have LordTech symbols embossed on their chests.
Here’s what fans had to say about Hawkgirl’s suits:
That Hawkman suit in Black Adam was god tier

I think it's clear they'll get new suits, everyone except Supes has the same suit and logo so it's probably part of the plot

I'm so tired of the people who defend these CW suits with the excuse of "Well, they are Maxwell Lord suits. They are supposed to look bad because they were made by a corporation." The Boys literally showed us that you can make corpo super suits look good. 💀 pic.twitter.com/1dPcqYCFZG

There is still a long way to go for the release of Superman and we can only grasp at straws to figure out the real meaning behind these suits. Only time will tell if Merced gets an upgrade going forward or not.
Isabela Merced on Playing Hawkgirl
![Isabela Merced in Madame Web](https://fwmedia.fandomwire.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/12124807/isabela-merced-madame-web.webp)
Merced is known for her work in Transformers: The Last Knight, Turtles All the Way Down, Madame Web, and more. However, getting to play Hawkgirl was a dream come true for her.
In an interview with Collider, Merced opened up about her love for the character and how both Hawkgirl and Hawkman action figures were part of her and her sibling’s collection.
Playing Hawkgirl was like a full-circle moment for Merced. She stated,
I was a DC kid growing up. We had the action figures, and most of them were so old and used that the paint had come off… But I really adored Hawkgirl. I had Hawkgirl and Hawkman as part of my collection. Well, technically it wasn’t mine. It was my siblings and I’s collection. We had Hot Wheels too. We just had a really fun, enjoyable childhood with those. So, this is a full circle moment.
The thing about playing superheroes is that once the audience sees you in the role, you get branded as the character forever, just like Henry Cavill will always be known as Superman.
However, this is not a topic of worry for Merced who would love to be known as Hawkgirl for decades to come.
I would be honored for people to see me on the street and just be like, ‘Hawkgirl!’ They don’t need know my name. I’d be honored because, you know what? It also sounds like, ‘Hot girl!,’ and I’m okay with people calling me a hot girl. I’m good.
Well, cannot argue with that logic. Given Merced’s enthusiasm for Hawkgirl, we can say with certainty that she will be giving her all to the role. Here’s hoping it works out for her in the best way possible.
Superman will be released in theatres on July 11, 2025.
