As we welcome the arrival of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, fans are finally starting to get a better look at what the DLC will offer. There’s a lot to go over here, from new storylines to bosses that may re-ignite old flames.
For instance, the newest trailer shows off a boss that resembles an iconic boss from Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City. The boss design and movesets are quite similar to Darkeater Midir from the older title and look like fans of FromSoftware are in for a treat with this fight.
Meet Bayle the Dread, the Midir Lookalike

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is a massive game with a lot to offer, and one of its key qualities lies in the character design and boss fights. As it turns out, the trailer has shown a neat little detail regarding one of the boss fights in the game.
This resembles a dragon from Dark Souls 3: The Ringed City. You can spot this at 2:33 in the expansion’s launch trailer. This enemy is called Bayle the Dread, who is a secret boss fight that’s hidden away from the DLC’s usual narrative.
So, it’s going to take extra steps for players to find and defeat this electric and fire-wielding dragon. Youtuber HarryNinetyFour has shown in detail how players can get to this boss.
It’s not an easy feat. The Tarnished is going to pass many deadly foes just trying to get to this challenge, but it’s certainly worth the time and experience.
Shadow of the Erdtree Seems to Be Paying Homage to Many Dark Souls Bosses

The trailer has showcased many bosses that are part of the experience, some being optional/secret while others are part of the main storyline. For instance, Renalla, Twin Blade Knight, is one of the toughest foes in the DLC who resembles Pontiff Sulyvahn from Dark Souls 3.
It seems like FromSoftware is indeed bringing back a lot of old memories, and carefully blending these boss fights and stories with the lore of everything that’s going on in the Shadow Realm. Many of the smaller (yet stronger) enemies that protect certain areas and bosses across the Shadow Realm resemble certain design elements (both visual and gameplay-based) that can be found in older games by FromSoftware.
A lot of players consider Elden Ring to be a massive culmination of almost all the games FromSoftware has worked on in the past, and this includes the Dark Souls games. As players explore the new expansion, we can likely expect a lot of lore that may connect with the older games at some point.
