While the fight between Homelander, Billy Butcher, and Soldier Boy was certainly iconic, there is no denying that the first half of the episode is revolting. One can only imagine what it would have been like to film the episode for each individual actor. During a recent interview, Erin Moriarty revealed her experience filming the episode as Starlight.

The Boys Traumatized Erin Moriarty

Recently, the cast of The Boys gave an interview with GQ about all of the most iconic moments throughout the series. Naturally, Herogasm was also part of the conversation. Erin Moriarty went first, talking about the scene at the start of the episode, when Starlight and Mother’s Milk are trying to get inside the house and meet Love Sausage for the second time.

Since the character has a very distinctive superpower; with his ability to change the size of his phallus, the special effects department designed something accordingly so that the actors could act appropriately.

The dude that works on our special effects, the head of special effects of The Boys, was waving a like, d*ck on a stick in front of our face. We needed it for the full effect. So we were dodging that thing. I remember it. I can’t forget that thing coming at me. It was very intrusive.

Being referred to as a ‘d*ck on a stick’ by Moriarty, one can only imagine what it must have been like for her and Laz Alonso to film the entire sequence. She explained that the prop was being controlled by someone who was made to wave it around their faces, which was extremely uncomfortable and a memory that scarred her for years to come.

Acting Was Not Required To Entice Disgust

Eric Moriarty then went on to talk about the second half of the scene; when Starlight is forced to convince Love Sausage that Mother’s Milk is her lover, by explaining the acts they participate in, in graphic detail. The scene was hilarious to watch for anyone who knew of Starlight’s personality, being almost saintly with her life choices and vocabulary.

The most disturbing part is we’re just talking to this dude, trying to figure out what’s going on, and we know we gotta get into the house, and all of a sudden, the sausage comes flying at our face. And [Starlight has] yet to encounter this sausage, so we’re just trying to keep our cool.

However, there was one distinct moment in which the actress was disgusted the most. After convincing Love Saugage of their authenticity, his love sausage comes close to Annie again, as though it were smelling her.

The way that we end up entering this house is because I provided an in-depth testimony to his skills. It was the love-sausage smelling me that really just kind of- There was no acting required in that moment.

Moriarty revealed that this was the moment during the shooting when she did not need to act, her disgust being evident on her face.

The Boys is available for streaming on Prime Video.
