The creators of the upcoming show discussed the show during a DC Fandome 2021 featurette, with Timm even claiming that Caped Crusader will be “more Batman: The Animated Series than Batman: The Animated Series.”
Talking about Batman: Caped Crusader, he suggested that the new show has the potential to do better than The Animated Series, as they had much more creative freedom to explore more themes than they earlier had.

It goes back to the original principles of the show we came up with in the 1990s… But at the time, there were limitations on what we could do with adult content and adult themes. Now I can say, ‘Ok, it’s the 1990s again, and I can do what I want to do.
The showrunner also discussed taking a fresh approach to character portrayals, suggesting improvements and new perspectives for several iconic characters previously featured in the original TV series.
Batman: Caped Crusader Writer Promises Bold Departure From The Animated Series
Along with Bruce Timm, Ed Brubaker, the head writer of Caped Crusader season 1 has also revealed significant departures from the classic animated show. During an appearance on ComicBookClub, he shared that the series will be what Timm had originally planned for the classic show.
“I’ll warn you guys, it’s a lot different than BTAS. It’s very much a re-conception… it’s PG,” he noted before adding, “It’s sort of like the show Bruce Timm always wanted to make, but that they wouldn’t let him make.”
