However, in 2023, a new contender for the best adaptation emerged that promised to take the wizarding world to another height: Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game set in the magical universe, where players can experience and explore the lobbies of the iconic Hogwarts School. Developers also believed that they could bring more depth to the wizarding world than movies.

When asked about their inspiration from the movies, both explained that during development, they were concerned that following live film adaptation would limit the game’s depth as movies had fixed sets and runtime limitations. So, they focused more on the freedom provided by the books. Tew said:
It’s like, okay, this is like the thing that I saw in the films, I recognize this tower, that tower, recognize this common room. So we want recognition. But we also want it to be really fun to play. And it seems like a lot of times, what would reconcile those arguments were the books, because the written descriptions would give us a little bit of wiggle room.
Adding to Tew’s point, Madsen explained that in the game, players can explore the seamless, interconnected world that will closely follow the depth found in Rowling’s books:
Well, I mean, there’s more real estate in a game too, than a movie. As Alan said in his intro, we actually get a link. A movie, you have these disparate sets. They are separate. But in a game, we get to link them together. And actually piece the puzzle together. And that’s where, in the books, we can lean on that.
Hogwarts Legacy allows players an evolving storyline that can changed with their choices and actions. This not only creates a deeper connection with the characters but also shows the wizarding world from a different perspective, a little closer to the original source materials.
