Marvel’s divisive era began much earlier than its post-Endgame Phase Four arc and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actor Ming-Na Wen may have just confirmed it on a public platform. The longstanding chasm between the frontrunner of Marvel television and the later Disney+ era has finally found some ground for debate and the Disney legend serves it up on a silver platter.

As actors become more vocal about their place in the industry, several truths brushed under the studios’ rugs also find their way out into the light. In a dramatic revelation, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star becomes one of the first to address the willful ignorance on Marvel’s part regarding the fan-beloved series.
Ming-Na Wen Rebukes Disney for Exiling Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The Mulan star and Disney legend, Ming-Na Wen had little to say when it came to the Disney controversy, let alone the reason behind Marvel not invoking Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into the main timeline. The actress may have reached global popularity through the series but even Disney doesn’t disclose its studio’s inner machinations to the cast of every show, no matter how intrinsic they may be to its success.
In an interview with Star Wars actor Katee Sackhoff on The Sackhoff Show, the AoS star revealed:
“It’s weird. It’s like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. sort of became a separate entity for whatever reasons… because it was on a network as opposed to [streaming]. I just know there’s some sort of division.”
Speaking about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. being Marvel’s first foray into television, Ming-Na Wen expresses regret on one front: “We were the first. So you would think, like, we should get some accolade for helping to launch Marvel into [the television genre].”
Despite Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. being a standard network television show, it was still an integral part of the MCU timeline that helped pick up the plot directly after the Battle of New York in The Avengers (2012). The canonical nature of the show is further solidified by the revival of Agent Coulson as a lead character in the series and the repeated cameos by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury.

For a decade now, fans have been divided over the series that has presented superficially as canonical in every possible way while the studio itself has refused to recognize its link to the broader Marvel universe.
As a result, the series has somewhat gained the reputation of being the unwanted child of Marvel that exists on the sidelines without ever being acknowledged by its creators, irrespective of its successful arc and contributions to the Marvel lore and legacy.
As Disney+ carries forth the broader MCU universe through streaming, perhaps Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. could one day find its way back to the world of its origin after spending way too long in exile.
