Fan-favorite series Yellowstone was going as strong as ever, wreaking havoc among its fans with each new twist and turn, until Kevin Costner decided to leave it and put an end to his performance as John Dutton. Since then and after the release of the show’s fifth and final season’s part 1, fans have been using all their brains and brawns to figure out the perfect end these Duttons could face.

That said, one fan seems to have figured out just that, that is the best way Taylor Sheridan could end the story of the Dutton family of this era. And, remarkably enough, not only does this fan-devised ending avoid the Montana-sized problem of what to do with Costner’s character, but it also immaculately explains how this smash hit series could conclude without giving a motley ending!
Fans Have the Perfect Yellowstone Ending in Mind
Since the Costner drama regarding his exit from the series began off-screen in the Yellowstone world, fans have been trying to figure out what end John Dutton could face. And, truthfully enough, they aren’t in the wrong worrying about it because of all the possible outcomes about this eldest Dutton facing his death that have been going around as of late.

This becomes even more evident after considering a fan’s latest perspective on Costner’s John Dutton being included in the series. This came after r/FloridaInExile, a Redditor, posted to the r/YellowstonePN subreddit about their respective opinion of how they “personally find the other characters more interesting,” while questioning Costner’s importance to the series.
Obviously, not a lot of fans agreed with this perspective, considering how Kevin Costner‘s John is basically the lead protagonist of this entire Western lore. This is because of the incredible gravity the character holds, the removal of whom would eventually lead to the ranch becoming more vulnerable than ever before — something the younger Duttons may not be able to deal with as efficiently.
That said, one fan pointed out these very opinions all the while adding their own respective opinion on how to put an end to this lore without sacrificing John to the dogs. As per what r/Few_Yam_743 posted:
I’m personally in the camp they should age up Josh Lucas and just write an 8-10 episode concluding season instead of hodgepodging some ending over half of one where JD dies offscreen or just dips.

As fans already know, Josh Lucas is the actor who portrayed the younger John Dutton throughout the entire series as effortlessly as ever. Thus, bringing an aged version of him about would most probably be just like bringing Costner forward, meaning that this theory could actually work out in the most immaculate and non-hodgepodged ways possible.
All of this being said, fans are speaking in this perspective’s favor too, pointing out how this would be the best treatment to go with for the central character of the ranch-y saga.
Other Fans Are Agreeing with This Proposed End

Joining in this discussion, other fans are piling in their opinions on how this could be the most satisfying way Taylor Sheridan could end the fan-favorite saga. While some of them favor this proposed end by r/Few_Yam_743, others, in the meanwhile, are adding their own thoughts on why killing off John Dutton is anything but a good idea.
All in all, here’s what they’re saying in the comment section:

Obviously, instead of making him go through some hell and face his death, this idea would be a much better option to choose and would even result in a satisfactory end for all those John Dutton fans out there. This way, not only would Costner’s exit from the show not leave a dent on it but the series would also be secure from any endings inviting controversial or dissatisfactory reviews.
